In this week's program the host talks about internship(实习医生的职务) and part-time jobs with our guests Jing Long, Dana Stevens and Meng Fanxi.
Most students gain experience by way of internship or part-time jobs during their school time but few know clearly how to choose part-time jobs, what one should pay attention to in working, and how the jobs relate to one's future.
Jing Long, who comes from Siemens in China, says that things you do for internship or part-time jobs are not necessarily what would be closely linked to your future career. But experience you gain, friends you make and also the time you spend getting to know the society and to learn how to communicate with your workmates will be beneficial (有益的) to your later studies and your final entrance to the society.
Economic doctor Dana Stevens gives us some good advice on how to be a successful employee. Don't oversell(过度表现) yourself; don't claim skills you don't have; just be honest to yourself and to your employer. He says when a student has his first job, he will soon realize that one's attitude to work and one's personality are more important than skills because one is always working in a team with others.

This question has puzzled scientists since the SARS virus first appeared and spread around the world: Where did it come from?
Now, the first clue has appeared. Researchers in Hong Kong and Shenzhen have identified (鉴别) the probable culprit (凶犯) the masked palm civet, a small cat-like mammal that is treated as a delicious dish in some parts of China.
After screening many civets and other animals, scientists from the University of Hong Kong and Shenzhen Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, made a discovery. Four of the masked palm civets-which have short fur and black and white stripes on their faces-were carrying the coronavirus (冠状病毒) that causes SARS.
The study provides the first suggestion that the SARS virus exists outside a human host. However, many important questions remain. The possibility of animal-to-animal transmission has to be investigated. For example, the presence of the virus could result from eating an infected prey.
Yuen Kwok-Yung, a microbiologist at the university, said the virus may have jumped into humans as they raised, killed and cooked the wild animals.
The civet is one of the main parts in the usual wildlife dish “dragon-tiger-phoenix soup”, for which wealthy Chinese in Guangdong Province will pay large sums. The soup includes pieces of civet cat and snake.
Hong Kong virologist Malik Peiris, who heads the team that first identified the SARS coronavirus, said that if the food was properly cooked, the virus should be killed.
However, he said, it obviously came from the wild animal, and someone could come into contact with it while the live animal was being handled.
The findings, announced Friday, caused Chinese officials to ban the sale of the animals to try to stop the spread of the disease and prevent new outbreaks, World Health Organization officials said.
News from the WHO website says that it is too early to know how much wild animals cause the transmission of SARS.

[ ]
A.encourage people to carry on the sale of wild animals
B.ask people to protect wild animals
C.forbid people to sell and buy wild animals

3.Who was the first to find the clue that shows where the SARS virus comes from?
[ ]
A.World Health Organization officials.
B.Researchers in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
C.Chinese officials.
D.Wealthy Chinese in Guangdong Province.

When I was about 11, I inherited(继承)my older brother's paper route. It was a good job, though it meant waking up at the crack of dawn and hopping on my bike in Rockford, to deliver papers.
Punctuality was critical. People expected the paper on their front porch by 6 a. m. .If I ran late, they would be standing in their doorways and I would definitely hear about it. On the other hand, doing the job professionally often resulted in much appreciated tips.
Ever since, I have tried to do as professional a job as possible-whether it be bagging groceries, painting houses or tarring(用柏油覆盖) roofs. Acting is not different. I believe if you work hard and behave like a pro, it will pay off, and you will be offered more and better roles.
This means giving your all. If a scene requires another character to react to my jumping into the water, I will jump in as many times as it takes to help him and the director get the shot. Several years ago, while filming a movie in the mountains of Brazil, my fellow actors and I all pitched in to help the crew move heavy equipment through rugged jungle.
Acting is a job like any other, and you can't let it go to your head. The things that made a difference delivering papers-being thorough, punctual, doing your best-also count on the movie set. And I still have to wake up at the crack of dawn.

Space around AnimalsEvery living thing has a physical boundary that separates it from its external (外面的) environment. Beginning with the bacteria and the simple cell and ending with man, every organism(组织) has a certain limit which marks where it begins and ends.
Anyone who has had experience with dogs, particularly in the countryside such as on farms, is familiar with the way in which the dog handles space. In the first place, the dog knows the limits of his master's yard and will defend it against encroachment. There are also certain places where he sleeps: a spot next to the fireplace, a spot in the kitchen, or one in the dining room if he is allowed there. In short, a dog has fixed points to which he returns time after time depending upon the occasion. One can also observe that the dog creates zone he is in, and a trespasser (非法侵入者 )can cause different behavior when he crosses the invisible lines which are meaningful to the dog.
This is particularly noticeable in females with puppies. A mother who has a new litter (一胎所生的小动物) in a little used barn will claim the barn as her territory. When the door opens she may make a slight movement or stir in one corner. Nothing else may happen as the intruder moves ten or fifteen feet into the barn. Then the dog may raise her head or get up, circle about and lie down as another visible boundary is crossed. One can tell about where the line is by withdrawing and watching when her head goes down. As additional lines are crossed, there will be other signals, a thumping (重击) of the tail, a low moan or a growl.
1.A dog on a farm knows________.
[ ]
A.the size of its master's yard
B.the only fixed place where he should sleep
C.he should not sleep in the kitchen

[ ]
A.attack any stranger who comes near
B.signal differently according to different occasions
C.raise her head at the sight of a stranger
D.growl when a stranger leaves her territory
3.It can be inferred from the third paragraph that mother dogs ________.
[ ]
A.have a sense of gradual territory
B.protect their babies cautiously
C.are ready to attack strangers
D.prefer to raise babies in barns
4.Which of the following is FALSE according to the passage?
[ ]
A.Dogs sleep at certain places in the yard or house.
B.Dogs will respond to territory trespass.
C.The boundary lines are visible and meaningful to dogs.
D.Not all living things have a physical boundary.

Here's TroubleThere is no other five-year-old like him. He has a potato - shaped head, bushy eyebrows and a voice that is not easily forgotten. He is not evil, but trouble follows him wherever he goes.
Crayon Shin-chan enjoys great popularity in China. He has many fans in Hong Kong, Taiwan and on the mainland. And he is one of the hottest cartoon characters in his home country, Japan.
But, the troublemaker's show was ranked the No. 1 most unwanted cartoon program by Japan's Parents Association on April 18.
More than half the parents who took part in the study thought Shin-chan was a negative(消极的)role model for children. They believed his actions and speech were adult in nature and not suitable for kids.
Many parents and education experts in China agree with them. Shin-chan, they say, is really offensive(令人讨厌的). “Crayon Shin-chan is full of humor. The boy shows some terrible adult mentality(想法), which doesn't match his age,” said Pang Lijuan, a professor of the Education Department at Beijing Normal University.
Pang further pointed out that Shin-chan destroys the traditional image of a polite, hard-working boy. She fears that some teens may copy his behavior and harm their psychological development.
Pang and many others in China think that Shin-chan is a cartoon for adults, not for children.
But some kids disagree. Jiang Xin, a senior 2 student in Luhe Middle School in Beijing, became a fan of Shinchan after he first saw the cartoon two years ago. He said it is Shin-chan's humor, courage and cleverness that make him and his friends love the little cartoon character. “Shin-chan looks at the adults' world with kids' eyes. He uncovers the hypocrisy(伪善)and selfishness in a childish way,” explained Jiang, “We watch it just for fun.”
Shin-chan's “father”, Japan's popular cartoonist, Yoshito Usui, never thought Shin-chan would cause such a heated discussion. He argued that Shin-chan is a childish copy of Japan's middle-aged men. The boy does everything adults would like, but don't dare to do. “People can easily forgive him because he's only five years old,” said Yoshito.

The ChallengeNathan's second-hand bike was good enough to get him anywhere he wanted to go. Of course, it couldn't match Tim's in a normal speed race, but all the fancy gears in the world wouldn't get you up Black Mountain. The gradient was so steep in places that you had to get off your bike and push.
On this particular afternoon, the odds were all on Nathan's side. For a start, he was stronger. Tim had always been thin, but recently he'd started to grow so fast that his arms and legs were like pieces of spaghetti. As well as being considerably fitter than his friend, Nathan knew the shortcuts up Black Mountain.
So when Nathan accepted the challenge, he was sure he'd win. He nearly always did, in competitions with Tim. That was what was strange. Tim was so competitive, and yet he wasn't any good at physical things.
By the time the two boys were three quarters of the way to the top, Nathan was clearly ahead. While the road zig-zagged back and forth diagonally up the mountainside, in certain places there were also vertical tracks, where water rushing down the slope in winter had bitten erosion courses into the soil. These had in turn been so overgrown by bushes and long grass in the spring that they resembled tunnels through the bush. The trick was to know where you could cut off a whole bend in the road by leaving the road and pushing your bike up one of these semi-concealed pathways. If you chose the wrong one you'd struggle up for ten minutes and then suddenly reach a dead end. Then there was no alternative but to go back.
1.The hidden tracks on the mountain had been made by________.
[ ]
2.It was sometimes quicker to use the tracks rather than the road because the________.
[ ]
A.tracks were partly hidden
B.tracks were easier to ride bikes on
C.road had many bends in it
D.road was overgrown after the winter
3.Which of the following advantages did Nathan have over Tim?
[ ]
A.Nathan had a better bike and knew the shortcuts up the mountain.
B.Nathan was fitter and knew the quickest ways up the mountain.
C.Nathan was stronger and more competitive than Tim.
D.Nathan was stronger and had a better bike.
4.The underlined part “the odds were all on Nathan's side” means that ________.
[ ]
A.Tim would not try very hard in the race
B.Tim had not yet grown as big as Nathan
C.Nathan had a greater chance of winning the challenge
D.Nathan had more friends who thought he would win

Americans love pets. Many pet owners treat these lovely friends as part of the family. Sometimes they spice up (增加情趣) their pets' lives with entertaining videos and amusing toys. If they have an eye for fashion, pet owners can dress their pets in stylish clothes. For special occasions, they can use perfume to make their dogs smell well.
Leading a dog's life in America isn't such a bad thing. Many grocery stores sell various pet foods to owners eager to please their pets. In Houston, Texas, dogs can have their own dinner delivered to their homes. Well-to-do dogs can attend doggy day-care centers while their owners work. Pets can even accompany their owners on vacation. Some hotels are beginning to accommodate both man and beast.
Beneath all these things, there lies a basic American belief that pets have a right to be treated well. At least 75 animal welfare organizations exist in America. They provide care and adoption services for homeless animals. Veterinarians (兽医) give animals an unbelievable care for an unbelievable price. People can even buy health insurance for their pets. And when it is time to say good-bye, owners can bury their pets in a respectable cemetery (墓地).
The average American enjoys having pets around, and for good reason. Researchers have discovered that interaction with animals lowers a person's blood pressure. Dogs can offer protection from thieves and unwelcome visitors. Cats can help rid the home of unwanted pests. Pets even encourage social relationships: they give their owners an appearance of friendliness, and they provide a good topic of conversation.
Pets are as basic to American culture as hot dogs or apple pie. To Americans, pets are not just property, but part of the family. After all, pets are “people”, too.
1.The underlined expression “have an eye for” in the first paragraph probably means ________.
[ ]
2.Pets in America can even get very good medical care because ________.
[ ]
A.medical care for animals is free
B.the price of medical care for pets is extremely low
C.Americans believe that pets have a right to be treated well
D.there are many animal welfare organizations in America
3.What is the main idea of the passage?
