Recently some American scientists have given a useful sincere piece of advice to people in industrialized nations that they would be much healthier if they ate more of the same kind of food eaten by humans living more than 10,000 years ago.
The scientists say that the human body has changed very little since human first appeared on the earth, but the way we live has changed greatly. Our body has not been able to deal with these changes in life style (方式) and this has led to new kinds of sicknesses. These new sicknesses were not known in ancient times (古代). So they are called “diseases of civilization”. Many cancers and diseases of the blood system (系统),including heart attacks and stroke (中风) are examples of such diseases.
Scientists noted that people in both the Old Stone Age and the New Stone Age enjoyed very little alcohol (酒精) or tobacco (烟草),probably none. Ancient people also got a great deal of physical exercise, but a change in food is one of the main differences between life in ancient times and that of today.
Stone-age people hunted wild animals for their meat, which had much less fat than domestic or tame ones (家畜). They also ate a lot of fresh wild vegetables and fruits. They did not have milk or any other dairy products, and they made very little use of grains. But today,we eat a large amount of these. We eat six times more salt than our remote ancestors. We eat more sugar. We eat twice as much fat but only one third as much protein (蛋白质) and much less vitamin. (维生素) C.
People today probably do not want to live the way people thousands of years ago did,but scientists say that we would be much healthier if we ate much the same way our remote ancestors did, cutting the amount of fatty, salty and sweet food.

Certain people make you feel comfortable when they are around. You spend an hour with them and feel as if you've known them half your life. These people have something in common. And once we know what it is,we can try to do it ourselves.
How is it done? Here are several skills that good talkers have. If you follow the skills, they'll help you put people at their ease (自在),and make friends with them quickly.
First of all good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone,no matter how shy he is,will answer a question. One well-known business woman says,“At business lunches,I always ask people what they did that morning. It's a common question, but it will get things going. ”From there you can move on to other matters -- sometimes to really personal questions. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go.
Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen for the answers. This point seems clear, but it isn't. Your questions should have a point and help to tell what sort of person you are talking to. And to find out,you really have to listen, carefully and attentively.
Real listening at least means some things. First it means not to change the subject of conversation,if someone sticks to one topic, you can take it as a fact that he's really interested in it. Real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones (腔调) of voice. If the voice sounds dull (单调的),then,it's time for you to change the subject.
Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the occasion (场合) of parting. If you're saying good-bye,you may give him a firm handshake and say“I've really enjoyed meeting you.” If you want to see that person again, don't keep it a secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they've known you half their life.
(1)You'll like to stay with some people ________.
[ ]
A.who know well how they can get along with others
B.from whom you can get much help
C.who'll never get into trouble
D.who always follow you
(2)Asking questions might be a quite good way_________.

The Nose on Your Face
The human nose gives to the languages of the world many interesting expressions. Of course, this is not surprising. Without the nose,we could not breathe or smell. It is the part of the face that gives a person special character.
In English there are a number of phrases about the nose. For example,to hold up one's nose expresses a basic human feeling-pride. People can hold up their noses at people, things, and places.
The phrase,to be led around by the nose show man's weakness. A person who is led around by the nose lets other people control him. On the other hand,a person who follows his nose lets his instinct (直觉,本能) guide him.
For the human emotion of rejection, the phrase to have one's nose put out of joint(接头) is very descriptive. The expression applies to persons who have been turned aside because of a competitor (竞争者). I went down to my friend Tom's farm last August to help him. August is the busiest time of the year for farmers, because it is then that they have to cut the corn. It is also the time I had chosen for my holiday,so I decided to do something that was useful and at the same time quite different from my work at the office in London. Luckily the weather was fine during my two weeks on the farm. One cannot cut corn when it is wet, because then it will go bad when one piles it up. The farmers have to wait for sunshine, and then cut and dry the corn quickly before rain comes.
My job in the fields was to throw the corn onto the high trucks. Luckily I am a strong man,so that I was able to satisfy my fellow workers, who were mostly men that had done this kind of work all their lives. When I woke up early the next morning,I was so fired that I could hardly stand up after all the hard work the day before. However,by the time I had walked out to the field,I felt perfectly all right again. Each day I began to feel stronger and healthier.
