Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself.Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself.Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky.Sure we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics.but sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves. If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge.it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself.

Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself. This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think.Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about US.Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be.Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world.

The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes. That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day.Don’t allow doubts to occur in it.

It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself.Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task.If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor. If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice. If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes. But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true.

The best way to get rid of a negative serf-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities.Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image.When you can pat(拍)yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way.Good luck!

Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends. Is this a good thing?Sometimes, when Mr.Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager.

“I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great. How do you like it?’” says Ballmer.“There was just a complete gap in taste.”

Music was not the only gulf. From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits.

Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families.Conversations on subjects such as sex and drugs would not have taken place a generation ago.Now they are comfortable and common. And parent-child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue int0 adulthood.

No wonder greeting cards today carry the message, “To my mother, my best friend.”

But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents.“There’s still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College.“In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents.”

Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving roles and attitudes. They see the 1960s as a turning point.Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic process that encourages everyone to have a say.

“My parents were on the ‘before’ side of that change, but today’s parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the ‘after’ side,” explains Mr.Ballmer.“It’s not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now.”

I don't ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again. There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it's like to work in a field dominated(主导)by men.I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting. What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time and the nature of black holes.

At 19 ,when I began studying astrophysics, it did not bother me in the least to be the only woman in the classroom. But while earning my Ph.D.at MIT and them as a post-doctor doing space research, the issue started to bother me.My every achievement-jobs, research papers, awards-was viewed through the lens of gender(性别)politics. So were my failures.Sometimes, I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind.

Then one day a few years ago, out of my mouth came a sentence that would eventually become my reply to any and all provocations(恼火的事):I don't talk about that anymore. It took me 10 years to get back the confidence I had at 19 and to realize that I didn't want to deal with gender issues. Why should curing sexism be yet another terrible burden on every female scientist? After all, I don't study sociology or political theory.

Today I research and teach at Barnard , a women's college in New York City.Recently ,someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women. You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able to answer, 45.I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children. And I don't dismiss those concerns.Still, I don't tell them“war”stories.Instead , I have given them this:the visual of their physics professor heavily pregnant(怀孕的)doing physics experiments. And in turn they have given me the images of 45 women driven by a love of science. And that's a sight worth talking about.

A.

She feels unhappy working in male-dominated fields.

B.

the very fact that she is a woman

B.

her involvement in gender politics

C.

her over-confidence as a female astrophysicist

D.

the burden she bears in a male-dominated society

(3)

Why does the author feel great satisfaction when talking about her class?

[ ]

A.

Female students no longer have to bother about gender issues.

B.

Her student's performance has brought back her confidence

C.

Her female students can do just as well as male students

D.

More female students are pursuing science than before.

(4)

What does the image the author presents to her students suggest?

[ ]

A.

Women students needn't have the concerns of her generation.

B.

Women have no barriers on their way to academic success.

GUANGZHOU,China-Chinese warships headed toward Somali waters Friday to fight against piracy(海盗), the first time the communist country has sent ships on a mission that could involve fighting so far beyond its own waters.

The mission to the Gulf of Aden, which has been threatened by increasingly pirate attacks in recent months, marks a major step in the navy's evolution from mostly guarding China's coasts to patrolling waters far from home.

The move was welcomed by the U.S.military, which has been escorting(护航)ships in the region along with India,Russia and the European Union. But analysts predicted the Chinese intervention could be troubling to some Asian nations who might see it as a sign of the Chinese military becoming more aggressive.

The naval force that set sail from southern Hainan on Friday afternoon included a supply ship and two destroyers-armed with guided missiles, special forces and two helicopters.China announced it was joining the anti-piracy mission Tuesday after the U.N.Security Council authorized nations to conduct land and air attacks on pirate bases.

  Pentagon(五角大楼)spokesman Maj.Stewart Upton said the U.S.welcomed China's move.

Pirates working out of Somalia have made an estimated$30 million this year, seizing more than 40 vessels off the country's 1,880-mile(3,000-kilometer)coastline.Most of the attacks have occurred in the Gulf of Aden, one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.

Sending ships to the area helped stoke national pride among Chinese who feel their increasingly wealthy nation should be playing a bigger role in world affairs.

For several decades, China has kept a massive army focused on protecting its land borders, while the country's navy was relatively weak. But in recent years, as China became more deeply involved in the global economy, it concluded that a stronger navy was needed to protect its increasing sea shipments of oil, raw materials and other goods.

Ok, so you want to get huge?Yon get into the gym, pound weights till you have a big red head, go home and that's it, you maybe think that all you have to do.Pump the weights. If only it was that simple.

Nutrition plays a very important part in recovery and growth.Without both you won't put muscle on.Bodybuilding diets are constantly changing due to the increase of your muscle mass;if you put muscle on you have to eat more, if you lose muscle you need to eat less.So how do you keep an eye on what is happening inside the body?

Well, you have two means that would work. The first is the good old scales that sit gathering dust in the bathroom;you should monitor your weight to see if your goal to put muscle on is causing an increase in bodyweight. If the scales show that weight is staying the same or going down then it's time to look at the diet and eat more.If the weight is going up then is it muscle?Or is the stomach getting bigger? If it's the stomach getting bigger then you are eating too much. But be cautious, you can expect to put some body fat on when trying to put muscle on,but you want to monitor that the dreaded fat isn't going on too much.

Another good method of checking which is going up,muscle or fat is to use a set of body fat calipers.By using the calipers every two weeks that will show exactly what is happening,if muscle is going down due to not eating enough then that will show with the calipers and you will need to eat more.If the calipers show that body fat percentage is going up then you need to eat less. All good gyms will have a set of calipers and as long as the same person does the measurements every time you should be able to get a true reading as to what exactly is happening.Once you have obtained the amount of total millimeters and your bodyweight, the chart that comes with the calipers will show what body fat percentage you are.

“We study for jobs that don't exist.”Nicollete Steggerda,23,said.

After three decades of prosperity, unemployment among 10 member nations of the European Community has exceeded 11 percent, affecting a total of 12.3 million people, and the number is climbing.

The bitter disappointment long expressed by British youths is spreading across the Continent. The title of a rock song“No Future”can now be seen written on the brick walls of closed factories in Belgium and France.

Recent surveys have found that the increasing argument in the last few years over the deployment(布局)in Europe of North Atlantic Treaty Organization missiles and the possibility of nuclear war have clouded European youths' confidence in the future.

One form of protest tends to put the responsibility for a country's economic troubles on the large numbers of“guest workers”from Third World nations, people welcomed in Western Europe in the years of prosperity.

Young Europeans, brought up in an extended period of economic success and general stability, seem to resemble Americans more than they do their own parents.Material enjoyment has given them a sense of expectation to a standard of living that they see around them.

When it comes to friends, I desire those who will share my happiness, who possess wings of their own and who will fly with me.I seek friends whose qualities illuminate(照亮)me and train me up for love.It is for these people that I reserve the glowing hours, too good not to share.

When I was in the eighth grade, I had a friend. We were shy and “too serious” about our studies when it was becoming fashionable with our classmates to learn acceptable social behaviors. We said little at school, but she would come to my house and we would sit down with pencils and paper, and one of us would say:“Let’s start with a train whistle today.” We would sit quietly together and write separate poems or stories that grew out of a train whistle. Then we would read them aloud. At the end of that school year, we, too, were changing into social creatures and the stories and poems stopped.

When I lived for a time in London, I had a friend, He was in despair(失望)and I was in despair. But our friendship was based on the idea in each of us that we would be sorry later if we did not explore this great city because we had felt bad at the time.We met every Sunday for five weeks and found many excellent things. We walked until our despairs disappeared and then we parted. We gave London to each other.

For almost four years I have had remarkable friend whose imagination illuminates mine.We write long letters in which we often discover our strangest selves. Each of us appears, sometimes in a funny way, in the other’s dreams. She and I agree that, at certain times, we seem to be parts of the same mind.In my most interesting moments, I often think:“Yes, I must tell….” We have never met.

It is such comforting companions I wish to keep. One bright hour with their kind is worth more to me than the lifetime services of a psychologist(心理学家),who will only fill up the healing(愈合的)silence necessary to those darkest moments in which I would rather be my own best friend.
