Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t love others until you love yourself．Sometimes you’ll hear people say that you can’t expect someone else to love you until you love yourself．Either way, you’ve got to love yourself first and this can be tricky．Sure we all know that we’re the apple of our parents’ eyes, and that our Grandmas think we’re great talents and our Uncle Roberts think that we will go to the Olympics．but sometimes it’s a lot harder to think such nice thoughts about ourselves．If you find that believing in yourself is a challenge．it is time you build a positive self-image and learn to love yourself．

　　Self-image is your own mind’s picture of yourself．This image includes the way you look, the way you act, the way you talk and the way you think．Interestingly, our self-images are often quite different from the images others hold about US．Unfortunately, most of these images are more negative than they should be．Thus changing the way you think about yourself is the key to changing your self-image and your whole world．

　　The best way to defeat a passive self-image is to step back and decide to stress your successes．That is, make a list if you need to, but write down all of the great things you do every day．Don’t allow doubts to occur in it．

　　It very well might be that you are experiencing a negative self-image because you can’t move past one flaw or weakness that you see about yourself．Well, roll up your sleeves and make a change of it as your primary task．If you think you’re silly because you aren’t good at math, find a tutor．If you think you’re weak because you can’t run a mile, get to the track and practice．If you think you’re dull because you don’t wear the latest trends, buy a few new clothes．But remember, just because you think it doesn’t mean it’s true．

　　The best way to get rid of a negative serf-image is to realize that your image is far from objective, and to actively convince yourself of your positive qualities．Changing the way you think and working on those you need to improve will go a long way towards promoting a positive self-image．When you can pat(拍)yourself on the back, you’ll know you’re well on your way．Good luck!

　　Parents and kids today dress alike, listen to the same music, and are friends．Is this a good thing?Sometimes, when Mr．Ballmer and his 16-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, listen to rock music together and talk about interests both enjoy, such as pop culture, he remembers his more distant relationship with his parents when he was a teenager．

　　“I would never have said to my mom, ‘Hey, the new Weezer album is really great．How do you like it?’” says Ballmer．“There was just a complete gap in taste．”

　　Music was not the only gulf．From clothing and hairstyles to activities and expectations, earlier generations of parents and children often appeared to move in separate orbits．

　　Today, the generation gap has not disappeared, but it is getting narrow in many families．Conversations on subjects such as sex and drugs would not have taken place a generation ago．Now they are comfortable and common．And parent－child activities, from shopping to sports, involve a feeling of trust and friendship that can continue int0 adulthood．

　　No wonder greeting cards today carry the message, “To my mother, my best friend．”

　　But family experts warn that the new equality can also result in less respect for parents．“There’s still a lot of strictness and authority on the part of parents out there, but there is a change happening,” says Kerrie, a psychology professor at Lebanon Valley College．“In the middle of that change, there is a lot of confusion among parents．”

　　Family researchers offer a variety of reasons for these evolving roles and attitudes．They see the 1960s as a turning point．Great cultural changes led to more open communication and a more democratic process that encourages everyone to have a say．

　　“My parents were on the ‘before’ side of that change, but today’s parents, the 40-year-olds, were on the ‘after’ side,” explains Mr．Ballmer．“It’s not something easily accomplished by parents these days, because life is more difficult to understand or deal with, but sharing interests does make it more fun to be a parent now．”

　　I don't ever want to talk about being a woman scientist again．There was a time in my life when people asked constantly for stories about what it's like to work in a field dominated(主导)by men．I was never very good at telling those stories because truthfully I never found them interesting．What I do find interesting is the origin of the universe, the shape of space-time and the nature of black holes．

　　At 19 ,when I began studying astrophysics, it did not bother me in the least to be the only woman in the classroom．But while earning my Ph．D．at MIT and them as a post-doctor doing space research, the issue started to bother me．My every achievement-jobs, research papers, awards-was viewed through the lens of gender(性别)politics．So were my failures．Sometimes, I would instantly fight fiercely on my behalf and all womankind．

　　Then one day a few years ago, out of my mouth came a sentence that would eventually become my reply to any and all provocations(恼火的事)：I don't talk about that anymore．It took me 10 years to get back the confidence I had at 19 and to realize that I didn't want to deal with gender issues．Why should curing sexism be yet another terrible burden on every female scientist?After all, I don't study sociology or political theory．

　　Today I research and teach at Barnard , a women's college in New York City．Recently ,someone asked me how many of the 45 students in my class were women．You cannot imagine my satisfaction at being able to answer, 45．I know some of my students worry how they will manage their scientific research and a desire for children．And I don't dismiss those concerns．Still, I don't tell them“war”stories．Instead , I have given them this：the visual of their physics professor heavily pregnant(怀孕的)doing physics experiments．And in turn they have given me the images of 45 women driven by a love of science．And that's a sight worth talking about．

　　GUANGZHOU,China-Chinese warships headed toward Somali waters Friday to fight against piracy(海盗), the first time the communist country has sent ships on a mission that could involve fighting so far beyond its own waters．

　　The mission to the Gulf of Aden, which has been threatened by increasingly pirate attacks in recent months,marks a major step in the navy's evolution from mostly guarding China's coasts to patrolling waters far from home．

　　Another good method of checking which is going up,muscle or fat is to use a set of body fat calipers．By using the calipers every two weeks that will show exactly what is happening,if muscle is going down due to not eating enough then that will show with the calipers and you will need to eat more．If the calipers show that body fat percentage is going up then you need to eat less．All good gyms will have a set of calipers and as long as the same person does the measurements every time you should be able to get a true reading as to what exactly is happening．Once you have obtained the amount of total millimeters and your bodyweight,the chart that comes with the calipers will show what body fat percentage you are．
