　　A couple from Minneapolis decided to go to Florida for a long weekend to warm themselves up during one particularly icy cold winter．They planned to stay at the very same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years ago．They both had jobs, so it was decided that her husband would fly to Florida on a Thursday, and his wife would follow him the next day．Upon arriving as planned, the husband checked into the hotel．There he decided to open his laptop(笔记本电脑)and send his wife an e-mail back in Minneapolis．However, he accidentally left off one letter in her address and sent the e-mail without noticing his error．

　　In the mean time：In Houston, a woman had just returned from her husband's burial．He was a minister of many years who had been“called home to glory”following a heart attack．The woman checked her e-mail, expecting message from family and friends．Upon reading the first message, she fainted(昏厥)and fell to the floor．Her son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor and saw the computer screen which read：

　　Subject：I've arrived!

　　There are several reasons for hair loss in women．However, in most cases, treatment is quite effective．Female hair loss patterns in women are not as easily recognizable as they are in men．A woman may experience it temporarily(暂时地)due to pregnancy or illness, although they may experience it for other reasons．

　　Hair loss can be due to a variety of factors, including a genetic tendency(which is not genetically linked to just one parent－both parents contribute to the tendency to lose hair)．

　　Women who are experiencing hair problems seem to have more limited choices than men．There are some female hair loss treatments that are available such as the Tricomin System which is a topical treatment that is nutrition based．Shen Min for Women is another natural treatment that contains herbs(草药)that are said to stimulate(刺激)hair growth and even restore hair that is graying to its natural color．

　　The majority of the popular, proven hair loss treatments are only intended for men and are not suitable for women．True, a woman's hair issue is different from a man's．The biological makeup is different and the needs are different．Women have different needs and their bodies react in different ways to environmental changes, physical illness and even the treatments that are available．There are many natural treatments such as vitamin and mineral supplements that are said to stimulate hair growth, but, for the most part, these claims are currently unproven．

　　One of the first and most important factors to effectively treating is to get a diagnosis from a doctor．Talk to your doctor about any symptoms that you may be experiencing in addition to the thinning hair．Stress, weight loss or gain, illness and depression, all of these can be contributing factors．

　　Yes, there really is a job where you can get paid to taste ice cream．Just ask John Harrison, an“Official Taste Tester”for the past 21 years．Testing helps manufacturers(制造商)to be sure of a product's quality．During his career Harrison has been responsible for approving large quantities of the sweet ice cream－as well as for developing over 75 flavors．

　　Some people think that it would be easy to do this job; after all, you just have to like ice cream, right?No－there's more to the job than that, says Harrison, who has a degree in chemistry．He points out that a dairy or food science degree would be very useful to someone wanting a career in this“cool”field．

　　In a typical morning on the job, Harrison tastes and assesses 60 ice-cream samples．He lets the ice cream warm up about 12℉．Harrison explains,“You get more flavor from warmer ice cream, which is why some kids like to stir it, creating ice-cream soup．”

　　While the ice cream warms up, Harrison looks over the samples and grades each one on its appearance．“Tasting begins with the eyes,”he explains．He checks to see if the ice cream is attractive and asks himself,“Does the product have the color expected from that flavor?”Next it's time to taste!

　　Continuing to think up new ideas, try out new flavors and test samples from so many kinds of ice cream each day keeps Harrison busy but happy－working at one cool job．

　　This one has an unusual story line．Just imagine this; one day Mickey Style, a TV reporter, goes off to make a program about an exciting film festival in Canada．On his first morning there he wakes up, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and life just couldn't be better．He works through the day, goes to bed; wakes up the next morning…to find it's the same day!The same sun, the same birds singing in the same tree, the same people saying and doing exactly the same things, day after day, He is caught in a place where time has simply stood still, where there will be no tomorrow．

　　This could be very serious, but it's not．It's an extremely funny film, which made everyone, including your reviewer(评论家), laugh out loud．It has the silliest ending, and the audience loved it!Sabetha Tayior is great as the generous bank manager, yes, really, although Hollywood probably won't give her any prizes．So if you want to forget your troubles, this is the film for you．

　　A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck．One of the pots had a crack(裂缝)in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full．

　　This went on daily．The perfect pot was proud of its accomplishment．Of course, the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection．After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream．

　　“I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologise to you．”

　　“Why?”asked the bearer．“What are you ashamed of?”

　　“I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back．And you do no get full value for y our efforts”the pot explained．

　　The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, “As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path．”

　　As they went up the hill, the cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it a little．

　　The bearer said,“Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side?”That is because I have known about you, and I took advantage of it．I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walked back from the stream, you have watered them．For two years, I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table．“Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house．”

　　Your chair is your enemy．That is the conclusion of several recent studies．Among people who sit in front of the television for more than three hours each day, those who exercise are as fat as those who don't．

　　So what's wrong with sitting?The answer seems to have two parts．The first is that sitting is one of the most passive things you can do．Compared to sitting, standing in one place is hard work．To stand, you have to tense your leg muscles, and engage the muscles of your back and shoulders; while standing, you often shift from leg to leg．All of this burns energy．

　　You may think you have no choice about how much you sit．But this isn't true．Suppose you sleep for eight hours each day, and exercise for one．That still leaves 15 hours of activities．Even if you exercise, most of the energy you burn will be burnt during these 15 hours, so weight gain is often the cumulative(累积的)effect of a series of small decisions：Do you take the stairs or the elevator?Do you walk to the corner store, or drive?

　　But it looks as though there's a more sinister aspect to sitting．Some evidence suggests that when you spend long periods sitting, your body actually does things that are bad for you．

　　Lipoprotein lipase(蛋白脂酶)is a molecule that plays a central role in how the body processes fats．Low levels of lipoprotein lipase are associated with a variety of health problems．Studies in rats show that leg muscles only produce this molecule when they are actively being moved．The result is that when you sit, an important part of your metabolism(新陈代谢)slows down．You may also have a higher risk of suffering from diabetes(糖尿病)．

　　Some people have advanced radical solutions to the sitting syndrome(综合症)：replace your sit-down desk with a stand-up desk, or watch television in a rocking chair．But whatever you choose, know this．The data is clear; look out for your chair．

　　World Reading Day was set up by the UNESCO in 1995 to encourage people, especially teenagers, to discover the pleasure of reading．It is also the day to honor great writers, for example, William Shakespeare, born or dead on that day．

　　Many countries celebrated World Reading Day．Take the UK as an example, on that day, millions of schoolchildren can buy book of special price, a much lower price than usual, in any bookstore．It has been done every year since 1998．world Reading Day 2010 in the UK will take place on Thursady 4 th March．Please note that this date applies to the UK and Ireland only．The initiative is so well established in schools there that they want to make sure that the Day happens in term time to really make the most of this opportunity to celebrate books and reading．Most other countries hold World Reading Day on 23 rd April every year．

　　“Reading makes a full man”(Bacon, 1597)．Books, magazines, newspapers and other kinds of reading materials can help us to know more about the out side world and perfect us．Therefore, it is necessary for us to spend time on reading every day．
