　　The legal limit for driving after drinking alcohol is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, when tested．But there is no sure way of telling how much you can drink before you reach this limit．It varies with each person depending on your weight, your sex, and what sort of drinks you've had．Some people might reach their limit after only about three standard drinks．

　　In fact, your driving ability can be affected by just one or two drinks．Even if you're below the legal limit, you could still be taken to court if a police officer thinks your driving has been affected by alcohol．

　　It takes hours for the body to get rid of the alcohol in one standard drink．So, if you have a heavy drinking session in the evening, you might find that your driving ability is still affected the next morning, or you could even find that you're still over the legal limit．In addition, if you've had a few drinks at lunchtime, another one or two drinks in the early evening may well put you over the legal limit till late in the night．

　　In a test with professional drivers, the more alcoholic drinks they had had, the more certain they were that they could drive a test course through a set of moveable posts and the less able they were to do it!So the only way to be sure you're safe is not to drink at all．

　　Alcohol is a major cause of road traffic accidents．One in three of the drivers killed in road accidents have levels of alcohol which are over the legal limit, and road accidents after drinking are the biggest cause of death among young men．More than half of the people stopped by the police to take a breath analyzer test have a blood alcohol concentration of more than twice the legal limit．

　　It is important to remember that driving after you've been drinking doesn't just affect you．If you're involved in an accident, it affects a lot of other people as well, not least the person you might kill or injure．

　　You can't depend on someone else to make you happy．That is a lesson I learned early in my marriage．I realized that I couldn't rely on my husband as my source of happiness．I learned that my happiness depended on myself and not my husband's actions．I learned that you have to choose to be happy．

　　You can choose your emotions．True happiness comes from within, and it can't be forced by outside force．So how do you choose happiness?The same way, you choose to smile or choose to wear a certain outfit(一套衣服)．You choose it because that's what you want to experience in your life．

　　You want to buy a new pair of shoes so you choose a pair that you like and feels good．You wouldn't buy a pair of shoes that you don't like or that doesn't fit well, right?So why do we keep choosing emotions and feelings that don't make us feel good?

　　Choosing to be happy after you realize your anger has shown up(or even choosing to be calm)can be beneficial．We choose our feelings; no one else can do that for us．If we let others get to us, influence our emotions－we are giving them power over us．When others cause us anger or pain, we are giving them our power．

　　We need to keep our feelings in check and not to react(反应)automatically(自动地)to what is thrown at us．We need to think our actions out instead of just reacting to what someone says or does．

　　Remember that we can always choose happiness．At first it will be difficult to just switch(使转变)your thoughts and feelings from anger, self-doubt, or fear to joy and happiness．But it is only a thought away．Don't dwell on(细想)what happens to you unnecessarily but realize what is causing you to feel that way．Realize that thoughts, feelings and emotions can change．Then move on and choose to be happy．

　　Taste is such a subjective matter that we don't usually conduct preference tests for food．The most you can say about anyone's preference, is that it's one person's opinion．But because the two big cola(可乐饮料)companies－Coca-Cola and Pepsi Cola are marketed so aggressively, we've wondered how big a role taste preference actually plays in brand loyalty．We set up a taste test that challenged people who identified themselves as either Coca-Cola or Pepsi fans：Find your brand in a blind tasting．

　　We invited staff volunteers who had a strong liking for either Coca-Cola Classic(传统型)or Pepsi, Diet(低糖的)Coke, or Diet Pepsi．These were people who thought they'd have no trouble telling their brand from the other brand．

　　We eventually located 19 regular cola drinkers and 27 diet cola drinkers．Then we fed them four unidentified samples of cola one at a time, regular colas for the one group, diet versions for the other．We asked them to tell us whether each sample was Coke or Pepsi; then we analyzed the records statistically to compare the participants' choices with what mere guess-work could have accomplished．

　　Getting all four samples right was a tough test, but not too tough, we thought, for people who believed they could recognize their brand．In the end, only 7 out of 19 regular cola drinkers correctly identified their brand of choice in all four trials．The diet-cola drinkers did a little worse-only 7 of 27 identified all four samples correctly．

　　While both groups did better than chance would predict, nearly half the participants in each group made the wrong choice two or more times．Two people got all four samples wrong．Overall, half the participants did about as well on the last round of tasting as on the first, so fatigue, or taste burnout, was not a factor．Our preference test results suggest that only a few Pepsi participants and Coke fans may really be able to tell their favorite brand by taste and price．

　　TAIBEI－Increasing numbers of Taiwanese students are joining the island's“China rush”, seeking education on the Chinese mainland．

　　According to official Chinese figures, the number of Taiwanese students admitted into college and postgraduate programmes on the mainland to talled 461 in 1996, 928 in 1997 and 839 in 1998．Although no latest official numbers were available, Netbig.com said this number had risen between 30 to 50 percentannually in the past two years with well over 1,000 entering mainland campuses last year．

　　The Internet site, based in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, provides education service and information on Chinese mainland colleges and universities．“Many Taiwanese believe a Chinese education giving more knowledge about the people and culture in the mainland will increase their chances in the Chinese job market,”Netbig.com vice-president Ingrid Huang said．“I believe it will give me hands-on experience in the business field in the Chinese mainland and a better understanding of the Chinese mainland people,”said Lydia Chang, a 19-year-old majoring in journalism at Shih Shin University．Chang plans to go on to get a master's degree in business administration in Shanghai, which she says offers the best environment for such studies．

　　A journalism graduate student, sumamed Lin, at the National Taiwan University said he would like to study law on the Chinese mainland since“there will be better career prospects for me now that more Taiwanese companies are going there”．Some business executives were sending their children to study in the Chinese mainland．“They hope the children could build up connections which could later become useful in their business operations,”said Yang Chingyao, professor of the Chinese mainland studies．

　　A Netbig.com survey showed the campuses favoured by Taiwanese students included Beijing, Qinghua and Renmin universities in Beijing, and Jinan and Zhongshan universities in Guangzhou．The most popular studies were law, business and Chinese medicine．

　　At present, Chinese Taibei doesn't recognize diplomas earned in the Chinese mainland nor help with any inquiries about studying there．But recognizing the trend, education authorities are giving a final form to a policy accepting certificates(iiE45)from selected universities．
