判断正误,正确的选T错误的选F

How often one hears children wishing they were grown up, and the old wishing they were young again! Each age has its pleasure and its pains, and the happiest person is the one who enjoys what each age gives him without wasting any time in useless regrets.

Childhood is a time when there are few duties to make life hard.If a child has good parents, he is fed, looked after, and loved whatever he may do.It’s impossible for him to be given so much again in his life without having to do anything in return.Besides, life is always giving new things to the child.A child finds pleasure in playing in the rain, or in the snow. His first visit to the seaside makes him wild. But a child has his pains:he is not free to act as he wishes. He is continually being told not to do this, not to do that, or being punished for what he has done wrong. His life is therefore not perfectly happy.

When the young man starts to make his own living, he becomes free from the discipline(约束)of school and parents. But at the same time he is forced to accept duties. He can no longer expect others to pay for his food, his clothes and his room, but has to work if he wants to live comfortably. If he spends most of his time playing about in the way that he used to as a child, he will go hungry. And if he breaks the law of society as he used to break the laws of his parents, he may go to prison. If, however, he works hard, has truth in mind, and has good health, he can have the great happiness of seeing himself make steady progress in his job and of building up his own position in society.

Old age has always been thought of as the worst age, but it is not necessary for the old to be unhappy. With old age should come wisdom and the ability to help others with advice. They can have the joy of seeing their children making progress in life; they can watch their grandchildren growing up around them and, perhaps, best of all, they can, if their life has been a useful one, feel the happiness of having come through the battle of life safely and of having reached a time when they can lie back and rest, leaving others to continue the fight.(421words)

Once a circle missed a wedge(楔子).The circle wanted to be whole, so it went around looking for its missing piece. But because it was incomplete and therefore could roll only very slowly. It admired the flowers along the way.It chatted with grasses. It enjoyed the sunshine. It found lots of different pieces, but none of them fit.So it left them all by the side of the road and kept on searching. Then one day the circle found a piece that fit perfectly. It was so happy. It put the found piece into itself and began to roll. Now it was a perfect circle, it could roll very fast, too fast to notice the flowers or to talk to the grasses. When it rolled so quickly, it realized how different the world seemed. Then it stopped, left the found piece by the side of the road and rolled slowly away.

The lesson of the story, I suggested, was that in some strange sense we are more whole when we are missing something. The man who has everything isn’t in some ways a whole man.He will never know what it feels like to yearn(渴望), to hope, to come true the dream of something better.

Clown

Clowns(小丑)also make people laugh. They often act alone or as a pair and make a different kind of fun.Clowns often don't use any words at all.It is their clothes, make-up and the way they walk that makes people laugh. Some people think clowns are only funny for children.Actually they can help people forget their problems, at least for a short moment.

Another type of people whose job is to make people laugh are comedians(喜剧演员).They often work alone or as a pair.Unlike clowns, comedians' clothes are usually not very strange.Although body language and their face are important in their shows, they do not use the make-up that clowns use.Comedians may act out a situation during their shows. We call that a sketch(短剧),but usually, their shows don't look like comedies(喜剧).What comedians have in common with the players in a comedy is their way of playing with words.Comedians make people laugh, but also think about life.At one moment in a show, you can hear the audience laughing loudly.A few minutes later everybody is quiet, listening and thinking about the comedians' words.

Typical for China is the crosstalk(相声)show, where a pair of comedians entertains the audience with word play.A crosstalk show has two speakers making many jokes and funny conversations. They may also dress up a little or act out small sketches in front of the laughing audience.Comedians of all times and many countries have a long tradition of this type of comedy.

Now scientists say that they can change the genetic makeup of certain animals so that their organs may be ________ humans. With this gene-altering technique to overcome our immune rejection to foreign organs, scientists hope to use pig hearts for transplants by the year 2010.

Animal-rights activists say the whole idea of using animal organs is cruel and unjust."Animals don't exist as tools for human beings, or for replacement parts," they protest. Some scientists also worry about unforeseen consequences of this technique. They fear such transplants may transmit unknown disease to humans.

Others believe transplanting animal organs into humans is unnecessary. The millions of dollars spent on breeding cows and pigs for their organs could be better spent on health education programs.Seventy-five per cent of the heart and liver disease cases that lead to a need for organ transplant are preventable, they say.The key is to convince people to have a healthy diet, and not to smoke or drink alcohol.Scientists could also use research funds to improve artificial organs.

Still others believe that though new inventions and prevention programs may help, spending money to encourage more people to donate their organs is an even better idea."Each year we lose 50,000 to 80,000 organs because doctors don't tell us about deaths, or because families say no," says Swasey, who had a heart transplant seven years ago."If we educated enough people about organ donations, we could take everyone who needed an organ off the waiting list in a year."
