Children find meanings in their old family tales.  
When Stephen Guyer’s three children were growing up, he told them stories about how his grandfather, a banker,        all in the 1930s, but did not lose sight of what he valued most. In one of the darkest times when his strong-minded grandfather was nearly         , he loaded his family into the car and          them to see family members in Canada with a         , “There are more important things in life than money.”
The          took on a new meaning recently when Mr. Guyer downsized to a          house from a more expensive and comfortable one. He was          that his children, a daughter, 15, and twins, 22, would be upset. To his surprise, they weren’t. Instead, their reaction echoed (重复) their great-grandfather’s. Many parents are finding family stories have surprising power to help children through           times. Storytelling experts say the phenomenon (现象) reflects a growing         in telling tales, evidenced (证明) by a rise in storytelling events and festivals.
A university          of 65 families with children aged from 14 to 16 found kids’ ability to          parents’ stories was linked to a lower rate of anger and anxiety.
The          is telling the stories in a way children can hear. We’re not talking here about the kind of story that         , “When I was a kid, I walked to school every day uphill both ways, barefoot in the snow.” Instead, we should choose a story suited (适合) to the child’s         , and make eye contact to create “a personal experience”. We don’t have to tell children what they should take from the story and what the moral is.

People say one man's trash(垃圾) is another man's treasure. That     comes to me as I    the house purchased in 1962 by my parents. My mother passed away in 1996. My father left the house    my sister and me when he died a few months ago.
After Dad was     , we looked around the     house where we grew up and that Dad loved so much. At first we felt so     all the stuff(东西) left. Like so many of their generation, my parents     everything. And like many in my generation, we faced anxious     about what to abandon and what to keep.

Later, in the basement, I     our old kitchen table, which brought back     of my parents and sister and me having breakfast together.
I'm realizing all these things     my parents' life journey. Each time I go to     , I find something that reminded me of my childhood or teaches me something about my parents I     knew.     , from the shabby furniture to all the hidden treasures, means more to me than all the money in the world.

What is it that you love to do but never feel that you get it quite right? Perhaps you don't even try any more because you think what you do is not        enough．
Discouragement seems to follow us a good part of the time,        however hard we work, it seems that there is        someone else who can do it much better．

In the process of my growing up I cannot remember hearing the words ‘‘I love you” from my father．When your father never says them to you when you are a child，it gets        for him to say those words as he gets older．In fact，I could not honestly remember when I had last        my love to him either．I decided to        my pride and make the first       ．After some hesitation，in our next phone conversation I burst out the words．“Dad．．．I love you!”
There was a silence at the other end and he        replied，“Well，same back at ya!”

Fifteen minutes later my mother        and nervously asked，“Paul，is everything okay?’’
A few weeks later，Dad        our phone conversation with the words，“Paul，I love you．’’I was at work during this conversation and the tears were rolling down my cheeks as I        “heard’’ the love．As we both sat there in tears we realized that this special moment had taken our father-son relationship to a new       ．
A short while after this special moment，my father        escaped death following heart surgery．Many times since，I have        whether l would have ever “heard” the love if I had not taken the first step and Dad had not        the surgery．

When I was a small boy my family was very poor. My father always used his savings to       my mother to visit her parents who lived far away. There was just my younger brother and myself in the house. One evening Dad came home from       and there was no food in the house, not       a piece of bread. Although we were       , my brother and I went to bed without eating anything.
My father had no money, but I knew from the         on his face that he could not let us have an empty stomach. He         the house and about two hours later returned and quickly       us up. He had in his hand two small potato pies, which he gave us to eat. I don't know where he got the       but somehow he       to get us something to eat.
My father had not eaten and had worked all day       he sat there with great satisfaction watching us eat. This has       stayed in my mind and left more of an impression than any amount of       he may ever have given me.

I guess the       I am trying to make is that in difficult times it is       not to show weakness but strength and character. If a       is the cement (粘合剂) that holds a family together, then the father is       that strengthens that cement.
It is his values and       and memories that have carried me forward and helped me to      my own problems in life. In my own       I have learned that it is the valuable time you spend with your children and the values you give to them that will remain with them always.

I used to be a very self-centered person, but in the past two years I have really changed. I have started to think about other people        I think about myself. I am happy that I am becoming a       person.

Now you’re a fool for helping. “I don’t want to get involved” seems to have become a national motto. One summer I was driving from my hometown of Tahoe City, California to New Orleans, Louisiana. In the middle of the desert, I passed a young man standing by the roadside. He had his    out and held a gas can in his other hand. I drove right by him. There was a time    you’d be called a jerk (混蛋) for passing by somebody     .

My mother has been a true inspiration to me and changed the way I look at life. Since my birth she has made it evident that I would become   ____  and that I would be one of the great  ones. She has taught me that I can do anything if I put my   ____  to it.
