I made up my mind to drive to South Carolina to meet my friends in my used car. Though I had only been there once  1  and did not know the  2  very well. I was on the  3  after I had made some enquires.
At Ashville, there was a crossroad where I could go on along the main road or I could take a short cut. The short cut was to  4  several hills and was dangerous. I hesitated for a little while and then chose the main road, for I wanted to be  5 .
Something strange happened after I drove a long  6  and found it was not the correct road that I wanted to  7 , but the hilly road I decided to avoid. I realized that it was at the  8  that I had made the  9  mistake. “What shall I do?” I asked myself. If I went back to take that road again, it would be very late by the time I got to Columbia. The short cut, to my surprise, was not that  13 . In fact, it was only a very peaceful country road,  14  up and down two low  15 . There was  16  traffic. Listening to the beautiful country music over my car stereo (立体声), I drove on and  19  the scenery which was so quiet and so natural. Even my used car forgot to give me  20 . It was just in this light-heartedness that I arrived at my destination. My friends, after they heard what had happened to me, all said it sounded like an adventure.

One day as a boy and his father were taking a walk in the woods, they saw lying beside a half-fallen tree a pair of shoes. An old workman was cooling his feet in a neighboring stream. The son, in a spirit of 36 ____ , picked up some small pebbles (卵石）and said, “I will put these in the old fellow’s shoes, and it’ll be great fun when he tries to put them on.”
“I 37 ____ if you will get much fun out of that,” said the father, “ 38  ____from his clothes, he must be a poor man. And his life is hard. Would there be fun in 39 ____ his troubles? If you were to surprise him in a 40 ____ way, say by putting a coin in each shoe, you would probably enjoy more.”
The boy adopted the 41 ____ of his father and slipped a silver coin into each shoe. Then they hid behind a tree to watch the 42 ____ of their trick. After a while, the old man came back to his work and slipped his right foot into his shoe.

A farmer went to town to sell his vegetable. But it was snowing that afternoon, and there_26_ few people in the street. Adventure is in my blood. And I had been considering how I was going to celebrate my high school graduation. I didn’t just want a small __21___ in the backyard. I started thinking about doing a solo ___22___ somewhere out of the ordinary. I took out ___23___ and drew the 1,500-mile route along which I would be ___24___ from the northernmost point in Norway to the southernmost section of Sweden. I wrote that down after 1 read it．It   36  me as something important．And I've told myself the same thing when my own goals seemed   37  off or when my problems seemed too terrible．And every time I've said it, I have always come back to my   38  ．
The truth is,our circumstances are only bad    39   to something better.But others have been though the much worse,that is,in comparison with what others have been through,you’re fortunate.Tell this to yourself over sad over again,and it will help you   40  though the rough situations with a little more courage.

I pulled into the driveway of my Mum’s house and saw my two-year-old daughter’s smiling face staring out the window at me. Vanessa had stayed with her grandma for a week, while her mommy, Georgia ,was in hospital 36 complications(并发症) in her second pregnancy. Vanessa, who missed her room and toys, 37 awaited the arrival of daddy to pick her up and take her to see her mother. After the visit we’d go home where I had a surprise for her.

I had never been happier in my life when I saw this little child climb the ladder and enjoy what other children  54  for granted.

A long time ago, there was an emperor(皇帝). We neglect(疏忽，忘记) our  39  , time with our family and to appreciate(欣赏) the surrounding 40  and the things we love to do. Life is not about making money. Life is definitely(肯定地) not about work! Work is only 45  to keep us living so as to enjoy the beauty and pleasures of life.
