passage 5

     阅读短文,简要回答下面问题。

                                   Moving out, moving back

In the countries all over the world, people are leaving the countryside in large numbers to find jobs in the cities. They leave because the countryside is much poorer than the city, and often there isn't much work there. Services such as hospitals and transport (交通) are usually much better in cities than they are in the country. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.

But in the big cities of Europe and America--London, Pairs, New York, people are moving out of the city. These are usually families who have some money, and want to live a quieter life. They are tired of the noise and the dirt of the city, tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don't want to sit in traffic any more. They want a house with a garden, and clean air that isn't polluted.

So they move 'out. Some don't go very far, just a little way out of the city, to the towns near the cities, other people move to the real countryside with sheep and cows and green fields! There, they start new lives and try to make new friends.

Not all those who move from the city to the countryside are happy. After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it was a big mistake. They don't make so much money and there isn't much to do Country people are very different and aren't always very friendly.

As a result, quite a lot of people who have moved to the countryside move back to the city. "It's wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights, "they say, "I'm so glad I'm back in the city"

101. Is there often much work to do in the countryside?

102. What kind of families are moving out of the city?

103. What are they tired of about the city? (答两点即可)

104. What do they think of the people in the countryside?

STORIES OF ANIMALS

① Bill Bowell, was suffering from depression (患抑郁症). The doctor gave him some medicine, but it didn't help, and he was unable to work for twelve years.

Then he decided to swim with dolphins.

"My life has changed," says Bowell. "A dolphin named Simo looked into my eyes for a few minutes and I started to cry. All my strong feelings came out suddenly like a volcano (火山). As I cried, Simo put his head on my chest (胸部) and kept very quiet. "After swimming with dolphins, Bowell says he has fully got well.

②In France, a man had to move to a new job two hundred kilometers away. He had a dog and a cat, and he loved them both. But he thought that the cat would prefer to stay in the same house with the new owners. So he moved and took only the dog.

About three weeks later, the dog was suddenly lost. For several days, the man looked for his dog, but didn't find him. Then, seven weeks later, the dog came back but he was not alone. By his side was the cat. They were tired and hungry after their long trip, and there was something wrong with the cat's paws (爪子). But they got well quickly and were never separated (分离) again.

③ People say that fish are cold, but this story shows that they have feelings, too. A friend was moving to another country, so I took her pet goldfish and put it in a bowl with our goldfish. They lived together for six months, and when the friend came back, we separated them again, and she took her goldfish home.

I found that my goldfish was acting strangely, hitting against the side of the bowl. The next morning he was dead.

Later that day, my friend phoned to say that her goldfish was also dead. I believe they died of a broken heart
