题目列表(包括答案和解析)

We are always using body language in our daily communication. When we talk with each other, we may use body language. For example, in the USA, people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, human beings (人类) are not the only ones who use body language. Animals also use body language and facial expressions (面部表情) to tell each other how they feel and what they think.
When a dog is happy, its ears will stand up and its ears will wide open. When it is angry, it will look straight at you. If an elephant spreads its ears, it means “ Watch out!”  To show friendship, elephants will touch each other with their trunks(鼻子). Dolphins(海豚) live in groups and like to show each other their feelings. An angry dolphin will sometimes slap(拍) its tail(尾巴) on the water. A happy dolphin will play with its friends, making small jumps into the air. Not only humans but also animals can use body language to communicate, but the things they “say” to each other are different.

Everybody hates rats. But in the earthquake places of the world-Japan, Los Angeles, Turkey-rats will soon be man's new best friends.

What happens after an earthquake? We send in rescue(救援)dogs. Why? Because they can smell people.Dogs save lives. They help rescuers to find living people. But dogs are big and they can't get into small spaces. So now a new research project is using a smaller animal to save lives:the rat.

How does it work? First, the rat is trained to smell people. When this happens, the rat's brain gives a signal. This is sent to a small radio on its back, and then the rescuers follow the radio signals. When the rat's brain activity jumps, the rescuers know that someone is alive. The rat has smelled that person.

Although there are already robots which can do this job, rats are better.Christian Linster at Cornell University, New York, says, “ ‘Robot’ noses don't work well when there are other smells around.Rats are good at that.” Rats can also see in the dark. They are cheaper and quicker to train than dogs, and unlike robots, they don't need electricity.

The “ rat project” is not finished, but Julie Ryan of International Rescue Corps in Scotland says, “ It would be fantastic.A rat would get into spaces we couldn't get to and a rat would get out if it wasn't safe.” Perhaps for the first time in history, people will be happy to see a rat in a building(but only after an earthquake, of course.)

A new sport—a sport that can be enjoyed around city parks, streets and pavement(人行道), is gaining popularity around the world. It's fast and exciting and it's called roller-blading. These days, it's common to see people roller-blading at great speed or performing tricks(特技)such as jumps, going backwards or going downstairs. The guys and girls who are roller-bladers often go out in groups and sometimes wear trendy(时髦的)clothes. You will also see roller-bladers wear protective padding on their knees, elbows and hands as well as a helmet(安全帽).

The sport first began in the United States in the 1980's and its origins can be traced(探寻)directly to two other sports: roller-skating and ice-skating. For people who have never tried it, roller-blading looks difficult. But the truth is it only takes a few hours and a bit of courage to get started. If you talk to people who can roller-blade, they will tell you the two most important things to remember when you start are to be brave and persistent(持久的).

The first few times you try, make sure you wear all your protective padding and just go slow. You will be surprised at how quickly you can learn. Once you get going, you will notice how much exercise your legs and hips will receive. Eventually, you will develop extra muscle strength in these areas and lose some of the extra weight you might have been carrying. There's no doubt your overall fitness will improve.

Roller-blading is a popular sport but it is also a practical way of transport. If you usually ride a bicycle, or walk to school or work, then perhaps you can start going by roller-blades instead. But most of all, roller-blading is about having fun. There's nothing better than putting on your roller-blades and gliding(滑行)around a lake or a park on a sunny day.

( )1. Roller is mainly enjoyed by ________.

A. students in their free time

B. young people in parks, streets, pavements, etc.

C. old people who like to move fast

D. people who are good at ice skating

( )2. To be good at roller-blading, one needs ________.

A. it can bring a feeling of flying

B. it can save you a lot of time

C. it makes your free time very interesting

D. it can lose some of one's extra weight and improve one's overall fitness

( )4. Besides a popular kind of sport, roller-blading ________.

A. can be used to carry heavy things

B. can be used as a practical way of transport

C. can be used to cure some troublesome diseases

D. can be used to send some secret messages

( )5. The title of this passage should be ________.
