题目列表(包括答案和解析)

In many African countries, the care of orphans has been mainly led by foreign donor organizations. However, Sister Florence has changed all that. Using her own resources, Sister Florence is leading the work of raising orphans from different backgrounds. Sister Florence Wanjala’s biggest motivation to start the orphan program was when she saw a little boy whose parents had died. The boy was living with a cruel grandparent and he would visit the grave of his mother, crying for support. Sister Wanjala wanted to give a helping hand and give him hope. From that time, she started feeling the call to help a larger number of orphans.
She opened an office with a few friends and coordinated (协调)a program to help the orphans. All the registrations were done in the office and the program so far has 8000 children. Sister Wanjala said, “My dream is to help the orphan to live a holistic (完整)life and be a good Kenyan citizen to help this country. Many people think that the way to support orphans is to put them in an institution(孤儿院). Others support them up to the age of eighteen, but here, we do it very differently.” For Sister Wanjala, putting a child in an institution is normally her last choice. She prefers the orphans to live in a foster(寄宿的) home.
She said, “I’m so encouraged and happy to see the orphans succeeding. When they come first or second in class, it shows how the program has helped them, and that’s encouraging to me as I continue to coordinate the program.”Through her charity work, more than 1000 orphans have been able to find a home. Sister Wanjala, as a mother, takes care of her own family.

A recent vote of 16,000 people in 15 countries showed that the United States is widely disliked .The finding surprised many Americans.

The Yahoo news website last week ran an opinion piece with the heading “Ahead: six decades of humiliation(不光彩)” . The author was Ted Rall, a New York-based writer.

“The reason for our declining popularity is no mystery: Bush’s illegal war against Iraq,” said Rall. “But Iraq ,Bush’s war and instances of prisoners being beaten and even murdered aren’t completely unprecedented(史无前例的),” he went on.

American ,in fact ,has a long history and tradition of causing hatred. It began with Theodore Roosevelt’s cruel suppression(镇压)of Pilipino insurgents(起义者)in the early 20th century. Then ,in the 1960s and 1970s, American went on to kill two million Vietnamese. More recently ,there have been a series of actions against defenseless nations like Grenada ,Panama and Afghanistan.

“The US has become, perhaps to its surprise ,the biggest danger to peace and stability on the planet,” said Rall.

To win the outside world’s trust, he suggested, the US could learn from Germany ,who was defeated in World War II.

Germany’s remarkable comeback since 1945 gives a lesson for today. During the next six decades the country recovered from total defeat, massive losses , and the shame of occupation. The country concentrated first on economic recovery, then built a political society designed to cause as little offence as possible to the whole world. And finally the country is gradually ready to regain the role it played before the war.

Now the US is the only member of its own Axis of Evil: invading(侵略)and threatening invasions, breaking arms rules ,kidnapping and murdering foreign citizens without cause , refusing to obey international rules.

“But that will change someday-whether we’re forced to change, as was Germany ,or whether we choose a different path on our own. What’s troubling is how much time it will take for the rest of the world to trust us as much as they trust Germany,” said Rall.

1.According to Rall, what is the most important factor for America’s declining popularity?

A.Roosevelt’s cruel suppression of Pilipino insurgents.

       B.Killing two million Vietnamese.

       C.Rapid developing in economic.

       D.Bush’s illegal war against Iraq.

2.According to passage ,we can infer that the author is           the present performance of Germany.

       A.approving of        B.against                C.scolding              D.beautifying

3.The author thinks America        its present invading policy.

A.will not forever change                         B.will someday change

C.will further strengthen                          D.will soon think over

4.Which of the following is the best title for the passage?

A.The US Is Trying Widely Disliked.

B.The US Is Trying to Invade Some Other Countries.

C.The US Is Trying to Change Its Policy

D.The US Is Trying to Get on Well with the World.
