It can be inferred from the passage that . A. no measures can be taken to regulate the home: school education B. most parents are not satisfied with public education C. it is wiser for schools to accept enrollment part time D. the home-schooled have no difference with those in public schools E Most ,young people enjoy some form of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling, or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some form-football, basketball, hockey, golf or tennis. It may be mountaineering, Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks in high mountains? This astonishment it caused, probably, by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure. Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as others, as there are for such games as golf. and football. There are, of course, rules of different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a "team game". We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no "matches" between "teams" of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities. A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty. But it is not unusual for men of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they perhaps climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment. 查看更多

Australians have been warned they face a life or death decision over their water-drink recycled sewage(污水)or die.

With the drought continuing, the country is set to be forced to use purified waste water for drinking, even though there is great disagreement to the measure.

Queensland has become the first state to introduce the policy after a warning from its premier.

“I think in the end, because of the drought, all of Australia is going to end up drinking recycled purified water,”said Peter Beattie.“These are difficult decisions, but you either drink water or you die. There's no choice. It's liquid gold, it's a matter of life and death.”

Beattie said Australia's second largest state would become the first to use recycled water for drinking.

Water is recycled in Britain and parts of northern Europe along with the US and Israel.

But Australians have never liked the idea.

To try to change the way Australians think, Prime Minister John Howard and Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull have backed Queensland’s move.“I am very strongly in favour of recycling and Mr Beattie is right and I agree with him completely,”Howard said.

Turnbull added that Australian cities, all now facing water shortages because of the worst drought on record, must start to use recycled water.“All of our big cities have to widen the range of water sources to include sources which are not dependent on rainfall,”he said.

About 2 percent of American students are now taught at home.Educators are confused about how this growing practice should be regulated, and also wonder whether children who are not fully registered in school should get some public services. The issue shows how dim the line between public and private education can become, even when that private education is delivered at home.

Probably about half the parents who teach at home are religiously motivated and use lessons by mail(or Internet)from church schools.Perhaps an additional fourth have some doubts about public education, think schools are unsafe of the fact that their children have special need that regular schools don't meet.In some cases, parents home-school to escape compulsory(义务的)education; they do least teaching while having older children care for younger sisters or brothers or work in home businesses.Although children often learn well at home, weak regulations in most states mean that officials rarely challenge or monitor parents who say they are home-schooling.With glowing frequency, however, public schools offer services to the home-schooled.Districts may permit them to enroll part time for instance; educators fear that otherwise these children could later return full time with serious academic weaknesses, and in any case some districts wanting to qualify for state aid can benefit from part-timers filling empty seats.

Animals are being killed by hunters in America in a cruel way, says an animal protection organization. There are about 1,000 hunting farms across America whose owners offer hunters an opportunity to kill animals that are kept in fenced areas.

Russian boar, zebra, deer, antelope and many other species are raised just to be killed. Farm owners charge hunters thousands of dollars for animals that they kill, many of which are close to extinction (灭绝).

The Humane Society of the United States says this type of hunting should be stopped because it is not fair to the animals. Many owners raise their animals. Others buy from animal dealers or from zoos and circuses that no longer want them. This means that the animals are not afraid of humans and they are easy to be shot by hunters.

Owners of small ranches (牧场) keep their animals in fenced areas so that the hunters can get close to the animals before shooting at them. On large farms hunters are taken to areas where the animals are fed sometime of the day. This also makes it easy to kill the animals.

The hunters want to keep the heads and chests of the animals they kill to hang as trophies (战利品) on their walls. This means that the animals are usually  shot in parts of the body. That means they will suffer a slow and painful death.

The hunting is allowed across most of America but some parts of the country have stopped or restricted it. The Humane Society of the United States hopes that it won’t be too long before the rest parts of the country also give up this cruel sport.

RTCA ,an organization which advises the aviation industry ,has suggested that all airlines ban, such devices from being used during “key” stages of flight ,particularly take-off and landing .Some experts have gone further ,calling for a total ban during all flights .Nowadays ,rules on using these devices are left up to airlines.
