(E) Directions: Read the following text and choose the most suitable heading from A-F for each paragraph. There is one extra heading which you do not need. A. An introduction to mountaineering B. Mountaineering employs different rules C. Mountaineering is an enduring sport D. The general way mountaineering is treated E. Clearing up the incorrect notion about mountaineering F. Something that climbers have to overcome Most young people enjoy some form of physical activity. It may be walking, cycling or swimming, or in winter, skating or skiing. It may be a game of some kinds - football, hockey , golf, or tennis. It may be mountaineering. 80. Those who have a passion for climbing high and difficult mountains are often looked upon with astonishment. Why are men and women willing to suffer cold and hardship, and to take risks on high mountains? This astonishment is caused probably by the difference between mountaineering and other forms of activity to which men give their leisure. 81. Mountaineering is a sport and not a game. There are no man-made rules, as there are for such games as golf and football. There are, of course, rules of a different kind which it would be dangerous to ignore, but it is this freedom from man-made rules that makes mountaineering attractive to many people. Those who climb mountains are free to use their own methods. 82. If we compare mountaineering and other more familiar sports, we might think that one big difference is that mountaineering is not a “team game . We should be mistaken in this. There are, it is true, no “matches between “teams of climbers, but when climbers are on a rock face linked by a rope on which their lives may depend, there is obviously teamwork. 83. The mountain climber knows that he may have to fight forces that are stronger and more powerful than man. He has to fight the forces of nature. His sport requires high mental and physical qualities. 84. A mountain climber continues to improve in skill year after year. A skier is probably past his best by the age of thirty, and most international tennis champions are in their early twenties. But it is no unusual for a man of fifty or sixty to climb the highest mountains in the Alps. They may take more time than younger men, but they probably climb with more skill and less waste of effort, and they certainly experience equal enjoyment. 第Ⅱ卷 查看更多

A.Causes of overusing fluoride

B.Negative effects of fluoride

C.Safe use of fluoride

D.The expert’s background information

E.No need to worry about fluoride poisoning

F.Solutions to improper use of fluoride

I have heard that fluoride can help stop dental decay, but I recently read that it is poisonousWhich of these is true? How can children use fluoride safely?

This question is answered by Dr Marcia M.Rich who practises general dentistry in Newholt. She is also a lecturer at the University and a writer for the monthly magazine Your Dentist Cares

My answer to the first question is to stress that fluoride works well and is safe when users follow instructions.Young children have a tendency to swallow toothpaste, which is why they should only have a tiny amount of fluoride toothpaste on their toothbrush. If this simple measure is taken, parents can be confident that children will be protected against tooth decay, and come to no harm.

Almost all medicines have an adverse effect-or even be deadly-if they are not taken as directed. So you are right-fluoride can be poisonous if it is swallowed in very large quantities. It is for the reason that fluoride supplements can only be obtained on prescription from the doctor or dentist. Please be assured that fluoride overdoses are rare-in fact, I have never heard of any fatal incidents related to fluoride poisoning.

Scientific studies have shown that fluoride can help to prevent cavities as long as it is used correctly. If fluoride is abused, there is a risk of illness or even deaths in extreme cases. If a deadly amount of fluoride is taken, immediate first-aid could save a life.A person who has swallowed a large amount of fluoride will probably start vomiting. If not, the patient should be given milk or antacid and taken to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment.

Taking too much fluoride while teeth are growing can lead to a condition called dental fluorosis. The most likely cause is the swallowing of fluoride toothpastes by young children. It can also be caused by inappropriate use of fluoride drop or other fluoride supplements, for example when fluoride is already is already present in drinking water.

F. Apply appropriate postures

Interviewing is a skill that can be learned and the key lies in the “three-Ps” of planning, practice and preparation. Here are some tips on making a successful interview.

1.

Prepare as well as you possibly can, search the web and research the background of the company and the people who you think are going to be interviewing you. Learn exactly what it is they do and exactly how you would fit in with the company. Most importantly try to understand the “culture” of the company. You need to communicate in a way that mirrors their company standards; this will show you can fit in that organization. Understand a little of what their competitors are doing. This will show you’ve bothered to find out where their position in the market is.

2.

Just as important is your own personal preparation. Think about the key things you want to communicate and why you would be ideal for the job. Think about you can sound enthusiastic, without sounding desperate; how you can sell yourself. If they ask you a question, such as “tell me about your CV”, and you can’t do it fluently, you will find the interviewers will lose interest and you won’t get the job.

3.

During the interview, be a very good listener and if you can find some common ground with your interviewers, you will have a big advantage over your competitors. The interview is basically an interaction between two people, so how you come across as a person is of upmost importance. As soon as you enter the company building, make sure everyone you meet is left with the impression that you are a pleasant person. Sometimes an interview question might seem very simple but, don’t be deceived, there is always a reason for them asking that question.

4.

Generally wear a suit and tie, but it does depend on the job you are going for. You should have discovered, when you studied the company culture, what is expected. For media companies, for example, being smart but casual might be the style they want. They are looking for someone who is comfortable with himself or herself. In this case you should dress for who you are.

5.

It is natural if you are nervous, in fact it is a good sign; it shows you are taking the interview seriously. However try to avoid nervous mannerisms, such as tapping your foot or playing with your hair. Positive body language is important, so adopt a good posture. If you slouch in your chair the interviewer will think you could be sloppy in your work as well. Positivity is essential in all aspects of your interview.

A.Do established musicians have a responsibility to guide and assist young up-and-coming musicians?

B.Did anyone promote your musical education when you were growing up?

C.What kind of “world music” do you enjoy?

D.What’s your comment on pop music?

E.Does the contemporary music press give jazz the coverage it deserves?

F.What’s wrong with the music on the radio?

An interview with Wynton Marsalis, a noted jazz musician

80.

There were the older jazz musicians who hung around our house when I was young. I saw how much they practiced, how serious they were about their art. I knew then I had to work just as hard if I wanted to succeed. Of course, my father inspired me a lot, and many teachers took the time to nurture my latent and the talents of other students in our school.

81.

Yes. We’ve done such a poor job with music education because, as a society, we haven’t maintained the kind of education that a true artist and musician needs. Young people haven’t been able to equate romance and talent with music. For instance, most of the people who make it in the music industry today have to look good. How they sound is secondary. Sarah Vaughan, Bessie Smith, Ella Fitzgerald ― those big, romantic queens of jazz music wouldn’t make it in today’s music industry, and that’s a shame. We need to teach young people about the alternatives.

82.

Around the would people make music that, if you listen carefully to it, sounds a little like the cadence of their language. I’d call it folk music. When I’m away from home, I make a point of listening to regional folk music, not what’s on the radio.

83.

The same music is on the radio all over the world, and the American sound is overwhelming. Even the pop music that’s produced and created in foreign countries has that American beat, that underscore of funk. As a musician, I’m not interested in hearing recycled versions of the same genre over and over. Any music that doesn’t have a development section just isn’t interesting to me.

84.

The music press has so much to introduce these days, and jazz is just a small fraction of it. Because some people are intimidated by jazz, they don’t cover it unless it’s a big name. New jazz musicians don’t get much of break. A lot of editors don’t say anything about jazz these days unless it’s Marsalis. That’s a shame. What VH1 is doing with their Save the Music campaign is phenomenal. They’re getting all these instruments out to needy kids. It’s the kind of thing all networks should be doing.

Learn how to relax

The right amount of stress is a necessity

Share your stress

Take care of yourself

E. Try physical activities

F. Be a participant

1._____________

Stress comes from mental or emotional activity and physical activity. It is unique and personal to each of us. You need stress in your life. Without stress, life would be dull and unexciting. Stress adds flavour, challenge, and opportunity to life. Too much stress, however, can seriously affect your physical and mental peace. A major challenge in this stress-filled world of today is to make the stress in your life work for you instead of against you.

2. ____________

When you are nervous, angry, or upset, release the pressure through exercise or physical activities. Running, walking, playing tennis, or working in your garden are just some of the activities you might try. Physical exercise will relieve that “uptight” feeling, relax you, and turn the frowns (皱眉) into smiles. Remember, your body and your mind work together.

3.____________

You are special. Get enough rest and eat well. If a problem is beyond your control and cannot be changed at the moment, don’t fight the situation. If you are irritable (急躁的) and tense from lack of sleep or if you are not eating correctly, you will have less ability to deal with stressful situations. If stress repeatedly keeps you from sleeping, you need a break from your daily routine to just relax and have fun, or you should ask your doctor for help. Be good to yourself.

4.____________

One way to keep from getting aboard, sad, and lonely is to go where it’s all happening. Sitting alone can make you feel disappointed. Instead of feeling sorry for yourself, get involved. Offer your services in neighbourhood or volunteer organizations. Help yourself by helping other people. Get involved in the world and the people around you, and you’ll find they will be attracted to you. You will be on your way to make new friends and enjoy new activities.

5.____________

The best way of avoiding stress is to relax. Unfortunately, many people try to relax at the same pace that they lead the rest of their lives. For a while, forget your worries about time, productivity, and “doing right”. You will find satisfaction in just being, without struggling hard. Find activities that give you pleasure and that are good for your mental and physical well-being. Read a good book or listen to beautiful music to create a sense of peace. Forget about always winning. Focus on relaxation, enjoyment, and health.
