A. from time to time B. not often C. never D. over and over again Words per minute %Comprehension Passage 15 An Experiment Animals seem to have the sense of eating when they are hungry and they do not eat more than their bodies need. It had been proved that rats will, when given a choice over a period of time, prefer water with vitamins to water without vitamins, even though there is no difference in taste or smell between the two water bottles. When a fragrant flavor was added to the vitamin, the rats did seem to develop a taste for it and kept drinking it, even after the vitamins were switched (转) to the clear water. In time, however, they broke the habit and went back to where the necessary vitamins were. In an experiment, babies of 6 to l2 months old were placed in a cafeteria , with a wide selection of baby food before them. They were given whatever food they pointed to or appeared interested in. We are told that at first they showed some unusual eating patterns, but over a period of time they managed to select a well-balanced diet. So, in selecting food, rats and babies do seem to know and act on what’s best for them. Clearly, there is a kind of “body wisdom which humans soon 1ose. Most of us do not eat as wisely as we could. Some people eat foxes, dogs and blackbirds, while we eat cows and pigs. So what people eat and how much they eat seem to be greatly influenced by what is going on around them. Everyone has got two personalities—the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control your behavior, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. In a normal night, of course, people frequently change their position. The important position is the one that you go to sleep in.

If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by fashion or new ideas. You don’t like to upset people, so you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t very confident.

If you sleep on your stomach, you are a rather secretive(不坦率的) person. You worry a lot and you’re always easily upset. You’re very stubborn(顽固的), but you aren’t very ambitious. You’re usually live for today not for tomorrow. This means that you enjoy having a good time.
