Read the following passage and answer the following questions in complete sentences:Write your answers in your answer sheet:

Hello. It’s one of the first words we learn as babies, yet it’s one of the last words we think to use as adults today. That’s unfortunate, because saying hello is more than just saying hello——it is recognition of another’s worth. How might the world change——how might we change——if we mastered this word? To find out, I spent one month saying hello to every person I met. Here’s what I’ve learned.

It can boost(促进)productivity. In one of the few studies ever done on this subject, Allan All day, an assistant professor of special education at Oklahoma State University, had middle school teachers greet their students individually each morning. This exchange of greetings raised the kids’ productivity.School went from impersonal to personal, and that resulted in more class participation and better grades.

Environments influence friendliness. One study found that people in the city were less likely to shake hands with a stranger than those in the countryside. My experience was similar.Whatever the reason, my urban hellos were answered far less often than my rural ones.Similarly, people in vacation spots were far friendlier than those hurrying work downtown.

It’s a form of universal health insurance. It’s impossible to say hello without smiling. And smiling has been shown to lower blood pressure, relieve stress and boost happiness.Apparently, a smile creates a similar effect in the recipient(接受者).

So maybe we can make the world a better place by ________.After a month of doing it, I feel lighter and I have a better sense of well-being.

Normal bicycle safety guides usually tell you to wear you helmet(头盔) and to obey the law in order to avoid being hit on a bike. Is this advice really helpful?

Consider this for a moment: Wearing a helmet will absolutely do nothing to prevent you from getting hit by a car. Surely, a helmet might help you if you get hit, but you No.1 goal should be to avoid getting hit. Plenty of cyclists were killed by cars__________. However, if they had ridden without helmets, yet followed the guidelines listed below, they might still be alive today. So they saying that wearing a helmet is the first and last word in bike safety is, to some degree(在一定程度上), wrong.

The most common bike safety advice is “follow the law”. Ridiculously, most people are already aware that it’s stupid to race through a red light at a crossroads. As a result, it’s clear that the “follow the law” advice isn’t that helpful, either. In addition, following the law is not enough to keep you safe. Here’s an example: The law tells you to ride on the right, but if you ride too far to the right, someone started a parked car could open their door right in front of you and motorists pulling out of driveways and parking lots will be less visible. In that case you were following the law, but could still have been hit.

Then what should we remember in order to keep safe when riding a bike? I will tell you about it in the following paragraph.

1.What does the author say about wearing a helmet in the second paragraph?(within 8 words)

The need for love is deeply rooted in the human psyche(精神,心灵).Love is a way of overcoming the feeling of human separateness.Separateness, according to psychologists, means to be cut off, helpless and alone in the world. It is the source of all anxiety.

.It can be selfish and possessive, or unselfish and giving.Abraham Maslow distinguishes between two kinds of love: B-love and D-love.B-love or “being-love” means love for another person: an unselfish love not dependent upon your own needs.D-love or “deficiency-love” is a selfish possessive love which is based upon someone else’s ability to satisfy your needs.

D-love is conditional: it depends upon whether personal needs continue to be met….But B-love is unconditional: it depends not upon what you do, but upon who

you areFurthermore, as it depends on who you are, it is possible only when you allow yourself to be known to the other person.

The psychologist Erich Fromm also distinguishes between two types of love, namely, immature love, called by him symbiotic union(共生体), and mature love.Symbiotic union is an immature love based upon the satisfaction of needs and is similar to Maslow’s concept of D-love.

Mature love, on the other hand, is a relationship that allows individuals to retain (保持) their independence, their identity, and their integrity. In mature love people can overcome their sense of separateness yet continue to be themselves. The immature lover would say, “I love you because I need you.” the mature one: “I need you because I love you.”

You know you have to read “between the lines” to get the most out of anything. I want to persuade you to do something equally important in the course of your reading. I want to persuade you to “write between the lines.” Unless you do, you are not likely to do the most efficient kind of reading.

There are two ways you can own a book. The first is the property right you establish by paying for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But this act of purchase is only the prelude(前奏) to possession. Full ownership comes only when you have made it a part of yourself, and the best way to make yourself a part of it is by writing in it.

Why is marking up a book necessary while reading it? First, it keeps you wide awake. In the second place, reading, if it is active, is thinking, and thinking tends to express itself in words, spoken or written. The marked book is usually the thought-through book. Finally, writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the author expressed

If reading is to accomplish anything more than passing time, it must be active. You can’t let your eyes glide(滑动) across the lines of a book and come up with an understanding of what you have read. The book you read for pleasure can be read in a state of relaxation, and nothing is lost. But a great book, rich in ideas and beauty, a book that raises and tries to answer great fundamental questions, demands the most active reading which you are able to do. If, when you have finished reading a book, the pages are                  your notes, you know that you read actively.

[8] Maybe we' 11 see baijiu and green tea served at baseball stadiums along with beer and soda pop. That wouldn' t make the game any less American.

[9] Meanwhile, I hope China continues to take in what the world has to offer and transform it into something typically Chinese. To think that exposure to Western ways weakens China, instead of strengthens it, assumes the country' s culture is fragile. That' s a surprising attitude for any Chinese to take.
