题目列表(包括答案和解析)

What is your favorite color? Do you like yellow, orange or red? If you do, you must be an optimist, a leader, and an active person who enjoys life, people and excitement. Do you prefer gray and blue? Then you are probably quiet, shy and you would rather follow than lead. If you love green, you are strong-minded and determined. You wish to succeed and want other people to see you are successful. At least this is what a psychologist tell us, and we are also told that we don’t choose our favorite color as we grow up. If you happen to love brown, you did so as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

A yellow room makes us feel more cheerful and more comfortable than a dark green one, and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. On the other hand, black is depressing. Light and bright colors make people not only happier but also more active. It is a fact that factory workers work better, harder, and have fewer accidents when their machines are painted orange rather than black or dark gray.

Remember, then, that if you feel low, you can always brighten your day or your life with a new shirt or a few colorful things. Remember also that you will know your friend and your enemies better when you find out what colors they like and dislike. And don’t forget that anyone can guess a lot about your character when you choose handkerchiefs or a lampshade.

For the people living in the Nile Basin, the river is their life. This 6,825 km waterway, whose watershed (流域) covers three million square kilometers, flows through mountains, woodlands, lakes and deserts. Its potential for fishing, tourism and shipping is great-but so are its challenges.
Water shortage, already serious in Egypt and Sudan, will soon influence several other countries in the watershed as well. Today, about 160 million people depend on the Nile River for their living. Within the next 25 years, the district’s population is expected to double, adding to the demand brought about by growth in industry and agriculture. The frequent drought adds to the urgency.
Water quality is also a problem. Precious soil is washed out to sea. Wastes from industry and agriculture create pollution. Higher concentrations of salt influence irrigated soils. Water-borne diseases remain unchecked. In areas where it’s hot and damp, hyacinths grow so fast that they choke off lakes, dams and other sections of the river, making it difficult for fishing and other businesses to move forward.
Native people along the narrow area of farmland have watched the sand move closer day by day. They’ve seen the river change course, and their only source of water thickened with mud. They’re very poor and have few choices.
But a new program, the Nile Basin Initiative(NBI),is offering very practical assistance. The program is more than just a water-management project. It’s a plan for the social and economic development of a vast district: it concentrates on the needs of the poorest of the poor and the environment that supports them.
These are whole ecosystem problems, calling for united solutions (解决办法).Half the Nile Basin’s countries are among the world’s poorest nations; yet, somehow, they must find the resources, skills and political will to overcome these challenges.

What is colour? Why do some of the things around us look red, some green, others blue?
Colours are really made by reflected(反射)light. We see colour because most of the things reflect light. Something is red, for it reflects most of the red light. In the same way, if something is green, it reflects most of the green light. If something reflects all light, it is white. If it doesn‘t reflect any light, it is black.
Some of the light is reflected and some is taken in(吸收)and turned into(变成)heat(热能).The darker the colour is, the less light is reflected, the more light is taken in. So dark-coloured(深色的)clothes are warmer in the sun than light-coloured clothes

For the first 10 years after the Wright brothers' original flight in 1903, flying was only a sport. It was a pastime for daredevils (不怕死的人).One very determined daredevil was Bessie Coleman. She was the first black woman to fly an airplane.

Coleman, born in Texas in 1892, the tenth of 13 children, dreamed of becoming a pilot. To earn money for flying lessons, she washed other people's laundry. At the age of 19 she took a train to Chicago, where she began to study in a beauty school. For five years she worked in a barbershop, and then she looked for a flying school. There were none in the United States that would teach women, but Coleman heard that there were schools in France that would. So she studied the language and sailed off to France.

When she returned to the United States in 1921, Coleman was the first licensed black woman pilot. Her "aerial acrobatic (航空特技)exhibitions" impressed audiences. She took her airplane through loop-the-loops and flew upside down. She did slow rolls and sharp rolls.Audiences were amazed when she performed a move called "falling leaf."

Coleman became a famous person. She performed her acrobatic flights all over the country. She also spoke to African-American audiences in schools, churches, and theatres.Fly, she told them.Be a part of the new aviation(航空) industry. Many young African-American men listened to her. Some became honored military pilots during World War II.Many others made their careers in aviation.

The best swimmers tend to be tall and thin with long arms, long legs, long feet, and long hands. The size of their hands gives them great “water grasp”, and only a very small hand movement keeps them afloat.

They also have great strength, endurance, insulation(隔绝) against heat loss while in water below body temperature, thus better energy conservation, low resistance(阻力) when in the water, and swimming stroke mechanics(动作技巧).

Part of the reason why some people are better swimmers than others has to do with body density. The average person’s body density is slightly less than that of water. Muscle has greater density than fat. Therefore, very muscular people tend to be poor at staying afloat. Bone has greater density than fat. Therefore, very skinny people tend to be poor at staying afloat.

Good buoyancy(浮力) is not necessarily the most important factor in good swimming, but it certainly helps. For example, great competitive swimmers—tall, thin, and usually more muscular than average—tend to have greater body density than average and less buoyancy. Many would not float very well if they remained motionless in the water. Their much greater “water grasp” makes up for it.

The average woman contains a higher proportion(比例) of fat in her body than the average man, and the average man contains a higher proportion of muscle in his body than the average woman. Therefore, in general, women are better floaters than men. Compared with other competitive sports, the performance of women is closer to that of men in competitive swimming.

66. The underlined word “afloat” in the first paragraph might most probably mean “      ”.

     A. keeping quiet       B. swimming faster         C. floating on water    D. never drowning

67. What can we learn from the passage about body density?

     A. Higher body density reduces swimming ability.

     B. A person’s body density decides one’s swimming ability.

     C. Fat people can always swim faster than thin people.

     D. People with a lower proportion of muscle can hardly swim.

68. “Buoyancy” is important because       .

     A. it helps people to be safer in water                   B. it can help people to swim better

     C. it can never be trained to get better                   D. it increases swimming length

69. How is the whole passage organized?

     A. By reasoning and explaining.                           B. By argument and debate.

     C. By explaining one part after another.                 D. By examples and comments.

70. Which of the following can serve as the best title of the passage?
