题目列表(包括答案和解析)
A film was at the Circle Five Ranch to film a Marlboro commercial. This is in 1868, before they prohibited cigarette ads from American television. Darrell Winfield was watching the crew set up the equipment. The scene included an actor crossing a river on horseback, but when the time came to shoot, the man was too drunk to ride. Someone from the crews saw Winfield and asked him if he would ride the horse for 50. “Hell, ” said Winfield, “for 50 bucks, I'll jump that damn horse over the moon!”
To people in many countries, Winfield is just a familiar but nameless face, a simple cowboy with an advertising message about a connection between the West and a brand of cigarettes. Few people know that he is advertising message about a connection between the West and a brand of cigarettes. Few people know that he is 55, a family man who’s been married to the same woman for 37 years and has 5 children and 7 grandchildren. Most surprisingly, he’s a real, working cowboy who raises horses in his ranch in Wyoming.
One of the most striking things about the Marlboro Man is that success hasn’t changed him much. He says that complete strangers sometimes come up to him and say, “I’ve met you. know you from somewhere. ”Whenever it happens, he says that he gets embarrassed.

Most children now chat daily either online or through their mobile phones. They are connecting to a huge number of other children all over the world. Some are shy “in real life” but are confident to communicate with others online; others find support from people of their own age on relationship issues, or problems at home.
Sometimes the online world, just like the real world, can introduce problems, such as bullying or arguments. Going online is great fun, but there are also a few people who use the Internet for offensive(冒犯性的)or illegal aims. Children must be made aware(意识到的) of both the good things and the dangers.
To keep children safe your management must cover the family computer. Just as you decide which TV programs are suitable, you need to do the same for the websites and chat rooms your children visit. Remind your children that online friends are still strangers. Reminding them of the risks will keep them alert(警惕).
Computer studies are part of schoolwork now, so it’s likely that your children may know more than you do. We get left behind when it comes to the latest gadgets(小玩意)and the interactive areas of websites, like chat rooms and message boards, which are especially strange. The language of chat is strange to many parents, too. Chatters love to use abbreviations(缩写)such as: atb-all the best, bbfn-bye bye for now, cul8er-see you later, gr8-great, Idk-I don’t know, imbl-it must be love, kit-keep in touch, paw-parents are watching, lol-laugh out loud, xlnt-excellent!
It seems like another language, and it is!

All of us have felt pain, which can take complete control of our body and mind, making it impossible to move and even to think. Yet we need pain, without which we wouldn't know if we have hurt ourselves. It is our body's warning system, which tells us that we are injured and should do something about it.
Pain is the most common reason we go to a doctor or other healer. It is the most common reason we take medicine. Until recently, however, most doctors knew of only a few drugs that stopped some pains. They knew little about the process of pain itself, about which, however, new knowledge is helping them learn to control pain better.
Scientists have learned that the sense of pain is made up of both chemical and electrical signals, which travel from nerve cells (神经细胞) in the injured area, up the central nervous system to the brain. And back down again. Scientists also have learned that the nervous system sends two different kinds of pain message to the brain, one very fast, and the other slow.
The first message is warning signal, which moves at a speed of 30 meters a second, and which travels to the middle part of the brain, and then to the outer part. In less than a second, the brain understands what part of our body is hurt and how badly it is injured. At a speed of only one meter a second moves the other message, which is the first step in the healing process, in which an important part is played by a very powerful material called prostaglandin, which are produced in almost every part of our body when needed. Scientists say prostaglandin raise and lower blood pressure, and also cause fever. When we hurt ourselves, the injured part produces a chemical that changes into prostaglandin, which cause the injured part to become red and swollen. and send the second, slower message of pain to the brain, which tells us not to use the injured part until it heals.
