题目列表(包括答案和解析)
A
When you think of success, you think of relative achievements in your own world. Each element of your world is important to you, and there is no need to compare with others. You cannot affect the success of others; you can affect your own success.
Success is very much achievable to everybody. Believe that and you have taken the first step. If you do not believe in yourself, then building self-esteem is your first task. However, believing in your ability to achieve whatever you want to succeed in is very important if you are not to be held back by self-doubt throughout your journey to success.
There are many things that will affect your ability to succeed, and it is best to focus on those under your immediate control. Once you do that, then the characteristics you develop can be applied to becoming successful in a range of activities.
What is important to you is that, as you start to reach milestones in your ambitions, you should appreciate your own achievements. Appreciating yourself will strengthen your self-confidence and your determination to succeed.
Some of the key characteristics you will find in those who are successful are perseverance, prepared to research, plan, work hard and practice a lot even when things do not seem to be going well, and an ability to recover and learn from setbacks. At the beginning of whatever you are trying to succeed in, a strong vision of your future, planning, and setting yourself achievable tar gets can all play an important role.
All these qualities, skills and characteristics can be learned and developed. But it is up to you to get things started. Those who do not start travel nowhere. For others, life can be a continuous journey of fulfillment.

Introduction Consisting of 10 main islands and eight smaller islets off the west coast of Africa, Cape Verde is an archipelago with a lot to offer tourists, whether they are looking for a relaxing beach holiday, great surfing or a hiking trip in valcanic and mountainous landscape. Sal, the main tourist island, has wonderful sandy beaches to rival any in the world and also fantastic surfing and diving spots. With its warm climate all year round, wonderfully dirverse landscapes, friendly locals and great food and music, Cape Verde really is an attractive destination. 1. With year round warmth and cold ocean currents helping to keep the temperatures from rising too high, Cape Verde has an attractive climate for torists, and the majority of visitors are Western Europeans. The people who go to Cape Verde for the beach life tend to be families, while it is quite a young, adventure- seeking crowed that goes there for the diving or surfing. 2. Cape Verde is located in the Atlantic Ocean some 500 km to the west of the Afican continent. Indeed, the name itself is taken from the name of that western-most tip, which can be found on Senegal. The islands are divided into two groups-the Barlavento (windward islands) and the Sotavento (leeward islands). 3. With warm sunny days year round there really is no bad time to go to Cape Verde. Some visitors might preder to visit in winter and spring when daytime temperatures are a couple of degrees cooler and rarely exceed 25 ? 4. The resorts on Sal have plenty of facilities for families and the beaches by Santa Maria are great for kids, with their white, fine sand. On some of the islands it is possible to do a bit of bird and turtle spotting without intruding too much on their habitats, and on Sao Vicente and Santiago it is possible to go horse riding. 5. On the islands public transport services are by minibuses or trucks. Taxis in central areas are cheap. Between the islands of Santiago, Sao Vicente and Sal there are flights at least once daily. Flights to the other islands are less frequent. TACV Cabo Verde Airlines (www.flytacv.com) is the main operator. There are regular ferry services between the islands, but departures are sometimes unpredictable. |
When someone says, "Well, I guess I’ll have to go to face the music", it does not mean he is planning to go to a concert. It is something far less pleasant, like being called in by your boss to explain why you did this or that, and why you did not do this or that. Sour(剌耳的; 拙劣的)music, indeed, but it has to be faced.
The phrase “to face the music” is familiar to every American, young and old. It is at least 100 years old. Where did the expression come from?
The first information comes from the American writer James Fennimore Cooper. He said in 1851 that the expression was first used by actors while waiting in the wings to go on stage. After they got their cue(提示,暗示) to go on, they often said, "It’s time to go to face the music." And that is exactly what they did--- face the orchestra (管弦乐队) which was just below the stage.
An actor might be frightened or nervous as he moved on to the stage in front of the audience that might be friendly or perhaps unfriendly especially if he forgot his lines. But he had to go out. So, “to face the music" came to mean having to go through something, no matter how unpleasant the experience might be, because you knew you had no choice.
The other explanation comes from the army. Men had to face inspection(视 察)by their leader. The soldiers worried about how well they looked. Was their equipment clean--shiny enough to pass inspection? Still, the men had to go out, and face the music of the band, as well as the inspection. What else could they do?
According to the passage, the word “music" means________.
A.your boss’s criticism(批评) B.your leader’s inspection
C.something unpleasant to be experienced D.sour pop music
The phrase ‘to face the music" was first used by _______.

A.his performance was not good at all
B.he might not remember what he should say on stage
C.he had to face the unfriendly audience
D.most of the audience might be his friends
to face the music" is also used to mean that soldiers were not willing _______.
A.to be examined about their equipment B.to be found weak
C.to show themselves up in public D.to be inspected by their leader
The passage is mainly about_______.
A.the meaning of the phrase ‘to face the music" B.how to deal with something unpleasant
C.how to learn English phrase D.how to go through difficulty
A week ago, I had the great pleasure of reading an e-book, When Money Talks, Listen! By Rich Ezzo.It took only about an hour to read.
When I first received a copy, I thought it was a Get Rich Quick type of publication.Nothing is wrong with Get Rich Quick, but my mind just doesn’t chase after dreams of wealth.I think that if God ever wants me to be rich, he knows where to find my purse.

Since I love this e-book so much, why wait a week to write the review? Simple.I wanted to see if the effect it had on me was a keeper. After reading the last word of the e-book, I totally agreed with the subtitle which promised to forever change the way we thought about money.I had so many thoughts running around my mind that I had to install(安装) a stoplight to stop some while others made their way into the picture, then I yielded(让路) them as a few ones arrived in town.I had a mental traffic jam, which only goes to show how slow the traffic usually is.
It has been a week and the effect is the same.I truly do look at money differently and have even done a few things differently this week. This is an e-book you’ll want to read, I promise.I often recommend books to my daughter, and this is one that I didn’t just “suggest”---I left it open at the bottom of the computer and told each one, “Read it, you’ll love it.”
