You know that much of our money is in the form of coins. The silver dollar is the largest coin as well as the greatest in weight and value. The smallest coin in value is the penny. It takes one hundred pennies to equal the value of a dollar. The smallest coin in size is the dime.Yet this small coin has twice the value of a nickel, which is larger in size.Of course, you know that a nickel is worth five pennies, it is interesting to note that a dime is worth ten pennies, but is smaller in size than a penny. Dimes are smaller in size than nickels or pennies, yet dimes are greater in value because they are made mainly of silver at greater expense.
Other coins include half dollars and quarters. Why do you think we call a twenty-five-cent piece a quarter? Well, it takes four of them to make a dollar, so one such coin is one-fourth, or a quarter, of a dollar.
