题目列表(包括答案和解析)
Some villagers were going to celebrate an important wine festival in a few days' time, so they borrowed a huge barrel from the nearest town, put it in the village square, and determined that each of them should empty a bottle of the best wine he had into it, so that there should be plenty at the feast.
One of the villagers thought he would be very clever. “If I pour a bottle of water in, instead of wine, no one will notice it, ” he said to himself, “because there will be so much excellent wine in the barrel that the water will be lost in it. ”
The night of the feast arrived. Everybody gathered in the village square with their jugs and their glasses for the wine. The tap on the barrel was opened-but what came out was pure water. Everyone in the village had had the same idea.
1.Why did the villagers borrow the barrel?
2.How did they plan to fill it?
3.What did the villager who put the water in expect the others to do?
4.What did they in fact do?
Have you ever thrown away a bottle of water? Maybe a bottle of water does not seem like much to you, but it can save the day for people who live in drought-hit* areas in China.
In the past few months, some places in southeast China has experienced a serious drought. In Yunnan, Guangxi, Sichuan, Guizhou and Chongqing, there has been very little rain since last autumn. Crops have died. The land has cracked* and wells and rivers have dried up. More than 20 million people are having difficulty finding safe drinking water.
After learning about the drought, many people across the country have helped by giving water, money and other resources*.
Last week, China asked every member of the Communist Youth League and Young Pioneers to give one bottle of water to the drought-hit areas. Students in primary schools and middle schools quickly joined in the activity. “A bottle of water isn’t much, but thousands of bottles will be of great use.” One student said. Some students offer their pocket money to the people there. Other students also wrote their best wishes on the bottles.
The serious drought has also made students realize that saving water is very important. Some students decided to take a shower twice a week instead of every day, so that they can save a little water. Some students said they would never forget to turn off the water taps after using. Some students even went on the street to tell people to take part in water-saving activities.
Actually, learning how to save water is not difficult, and it can begin with teaching good habits to others around you. All you have to do is to think a little about how easy it is to waste water in everyday activities.
