Although I didn’t have any interest in being a school bus driver, I became one. Many years later, I was still working on the school bus. There are so many good reasons. Firstly, the talk brought me different kinds of information. I also got to hear all the family secrets of the newcomers. I have a toy bear who was a great comforter(安慰者) for the little ones. The kids got to look after him on the trip to school and he waited patiently for them to get on for the trip home.

Our bus would often pass a place where we could see some alpacas (羊驼) in front of a farm house. Little Michael would cry excitedly from the seat, “Look, Miss! Look at the camels!” He used to put his head out of the bus window. When I warned him that a little insect would come into his nose if he wasn’t careful, he smartly gave up the habit.
I remember a little girl got on the bus one morning 5 years ago and sobbed(抽泣) all the way to school. We arrived at the school gate. As she waited to get down the bus, she threw her arms around my neck and cried that her grandfather had died the night before.
A school bus driver needs to keep one eye on the road and the other on the mirror to watch what the little ones are doing down the back.
Now, it’s important to think how many lives I’ve been responsible(负责的) for, and how many kilometers I’ve driven in order to get my passengers home safely during the 20 years. I’ve enjoyed it, but it’s time to rest and park my school bus.

Millions of people pass through the gate of Disney's entertainment parks in California, Florida, Paris and
Tokyo each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? What makes foreign kings and
queens and other important people want to visit these Disney parks? Well, one reason is the way they are
treated once they get there. The people at Disney go out of their way to serve their "guests", as they prefer to
call them and to see that they enjoy themselves.
All new employees (雇员), from vice presidents to part-time workers, begin their employment by attending
Disney University and taking "Tradition I". Here, they learn about the company's history, how it is managed
and why it is successful. They are shown how each department relates to the whole. All employees are shown
how their part is important in making the whole part a success.
After passing "Tradition I", the employees go on to more specialized training for their specific jobs. No
detail (细节) is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four eight-hour days of training. When one
ticket taker was asked why it took so much training for such a simple ordinary job, he replied, "What happens
if someone wants to know where the restrooms are, when the parade starts or what bus to take back to the
campgrounds? …We need to know the answers or where to get them quickly. Our constant aim is to help
our guests enjoy party."
Even Disney's managers get involved (参与) in the daily management of the park. Every year, the
managers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. For a full week, the bosses
sell hot dogs or ice cream, take tickets or drive the monorail, and take up any of the 100 jobs that make the
entertainment park come alive. The managers agree that this week helps them to see the company's goals more
clearly.
All these efforts (努力) to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is
considered by many as the best mass service (群体服务) provided in America or the world. As one long-time
business observer once said,"How Disney treats people, communicates with them, rewards them, is in my
view the very reason for his fifty years of success…I have watched, very carefully and with great respect
and admiration, the theory and practice of selling satisfaction and serving millions of people on a daily basis,
successfully. It is what Disney does best."
1. The first day they come to Disney parks, all new employees ______.
A. begin by receiving on-the-job training
B. must learn several jobs
C. begin as ticket takers
D. have already attended Disney University
2. The main aim of the Disney employees is to ______.
A. learn all parts of the business
B. see that their guests enjoy themselves
C. be able to answer all kinds of questions
D. keep their important guests happy
3. Each year, managers wear special service clothes and work in the park to ______.
A. set a good example for employees
B. remind themselves of their beginning days at Disney
C. have a better view of the company's aims
D. replace employees on holidays
4. Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. What Makes Disney Parks Successful?
B. Universal Attraction: Disney Parks
C. Training is Disney
D. How to Make Guests Happy

  Dear Brenda,

I have just come back from France. It was the first time I had ever been there. We spent one day at Disneyland Park. We all had a good time there as it is a very exciting place. I've got lots of news to tell you.

When we arrived in Paris, my brother John was very excited. He wanted to go straight into the park, but my mother told him that he would have to wait until we had to check into the hotel.

About an hour later, we bought some tickets and John and I ran into the park. We got on a streetcar. It took us along a road called Main Street USA. The street is like an old American street with old-fashioned shops. Next we went to Adventureland. We went to see the Swiss Family Robinson who were having a picnic in their tree house. Before long, we were all hungry so we had lunch in a lovely American restaurant. The food was very delicious.

After that we went to Fantasyland. I thought it was great. It was my favorite part of the park. I talked with Alice and had tea and cakes. John went to see Sleeping Beauty's castle in the hope of seeing Sleeping Beauty. Unluckily, she was sleeping so he wasn't able to see her.

We decided to go to Discoveryland next. On our way we saw Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. They are well-known cartoon characters. They were very big. They were much bigger than I had thought. It was late in the afternoon, but we thought we had just enough time to visit Discoveryland when John found he had lost a button from his shirt. We looked everywhere for the button, but we couldn't find it. When we arrived at the entrance to Discoveryland, there was a big sign on the gate that read “CLOSED”. We were too late. We were disappointed, but I agreed we had had a wonderful time.

I hope that we will go back soon.

Love,

Jenny

When I was seven years old my mom was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer. The doctors told us my mom
might be saved with surgery (手术). But it could also kill her. She chose to have it.
The day before the surgery I was off school, and my mom planned the best day of my life, everything I
loved at seven and everything that would put a smile on my face. The day began with her waking me up
saying, "Kate, I have a surprise for you. Come and see." The surprise was a doll I had wanted for the longest
time. Throughout the day, she told me everything that she thought I would need to know to grow up and be
a good person; she told me to be the best I could be and that I would always make her proud. We had a picnic
in the park, and it was so cold that we moved to the car. The day was filled with laughter. For the first time
in a long time I could see she was really happy. I would never forget her smile, or the way her eyes shone as
if we were the same age. It was the best day of my life, and I will never forget the conversations we shared.
My mother managed to live through the surgery. Now when I look back, I realize that the best day of my
life could be her last and this could be the last day I would remember with her, the last one we shared. I also
understand how unselfish a mother is.

[     ]
A. Because she left her child a special memory.
