The Year of the Dog has gone and this year we have pigs. What words can we think of for pigs? Some bad words maybe, like silly, dirty, greedy(贪婪)…But, are these true?

When we see pigs, they are usually in dirty water or behind dirty fences. But pigs also want to be clean if they can.Pigs have no sweat glands(汗腺), SO they have to get cool in water when they feel hot.

If people are greedy, we say they“pig out”.Yes, pigs love eating a lot.But they are useful to people.People not only eat their meat.but also use other parts of pigs.Pig skin is used for glue and shoes. The hair can be used to make brushes.Sometimes, pigs are even used to make medicine.

“He is as silly as a pig!”This expression is wrong.Pigs are very smart animals.Among all animals.they are the third cleverest-monkeys, dolphins and pigs.Scientists think the training of pigs is easier than the training of dogs and cats.Pigs have a very good sense of smell(嗅觉).They can find things nearby or faraway. They can also help the police to-sniff-out drugs(毒品)at an airport or at a train station 1

Li Hua, a middle school student in Yangzhou, doesn’t have time for breakfast. He always does his
homework until very late at night and can’t get up for breakfast the next morning. There are many other
students like Li. They don’t have healthy eating habits. Scientists from Southern University studied 1,790
students in Nanjing last year, according to the Xinhua News Agency. They found that 30% of middle
school students don’t have breakfast and 41.3 percent of students only eat the foods they like most.
These bad eating habits may make the students fatter and affect the development of our bodies. A
study by the Ministry of Health(卫生部) in 2005 showed that about 20 percent of people aged 13 to 20
have a nutritional imbalance(营养失衡).This could cause high blood pressure and other serious problems.
Nutritional balance is important - especially for students. It can prevent health problems like diabetes(糖尿病). Proper nutrition(营养) also gives students enough energy to study.
In order to improve students’ nutrition, many schools in China provide food between meals, such as
milk and fruit. Over half of Chinese middle and primary schools provide nutritious meals.
However, some students don’t like the provided meals and have instant noodles(方便面) or KFC
instead. Hu Yongzhen, an expert from Southeast University, suggests that schools should improve their
nutritional meals in order to attract students. If possible, they should use the help of nutritional experts to
prepare meals for students.
     Tips to keep healthy:
★You shouldn’t eat what you like. You should eat all healthy food including meat, vegetables, fruit,
bread, noodles and milk. every day.
★Eat the right things for the seasons. In summer, people may sweat easily because of the hot weather. It is better to add a little more salt to food when you exercise in hot weather. And winter is coming, we can eat more red carrots which are full of vitamin C. It also helps stop a cough.

Do you sweat, chew (嚼) your pencil, and feel butterflies in your stomach as your teacher hands out
a test? A lot of people get freaked out (兴奋) when it is time to take a test. It is natural to feel some stress
(压力) about taking tests. In fact, sometimes a little adrenaline (肾上腺素) is a good thing to jump-start you.
Here are some tips for taking tests:
     ● First, be sure you have studied properly. It sounds like a no-brainer, but if you are sure of the information,
you will have less reason to be worried.
     ● Get enough sleep the night before the test. Your memory recall (使想起, 回想) will be much better if you
have had enough rest. In a scientific study, people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better
than those who stayed up all night studying.
     ● Listen closely to any instructions. As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what is expected
of you.
     ● Read the test through first. Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the full test, checking
out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete. This will allow you to estimate (估计)
how much time you have for each part and ask the teacher any questions. If something seems unclear before
you start, don't panic: ask.
     ● Focus (集中) on addressing each question one by one. As you take the test, if you do not know an answer, do not obsess (使困扰) over it. Instead, pass over the question and come back to it after you have answered
other questions.
     ● Relax. You might need a mini-break if you are so nervous that you blank out. Of course you cannot get
up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle (摆动) your fingers and toes, take four or five
deep breaths, or picture yourself on a beach or some other calm place.
These tips should help most people, but some can get serious test-taking fear. You may need to ask a
teacher or counselor for help if you are one of them.
1. The underlined word "butterflies" means ________.
A. mad
B. smart
C. stupid
D. nervous
2. From the passage, we can know ________.
A. if we are nervous in the middle of a test, we can take pictures of ourselves
B. when we don't know some answers of the test, we must finish them right now
C. getting enough sleep the night before the test can help recall our memory easily
D. when we get the test paper we should read part of the test so that we can save time
3. The passage is mainly about ________.
A. how to do well in tests
B. how to read tests carefully
C. how to focus on questions of tests
D. how to ask a teacher for help about tests
