　　Two travelers are walking in Africa. The sun beats down on them. The land is dry and dusty. Even the rivers have dried up.

　　The travelers sit down next to a huge, ugly tree. They're hot and tired. Most of all, they're thirsty. They reach for their water canteen (水壶) . It's empty! Where can they find water? They look up at the tree next to them. Then they remember. Quickly, they climb to the top of the tree. They find a scooped-out hole there. The hole is filled with water. The travelers take huge gulps. The baobab (木棉) tree has saved their lives.

　　The baobab tree is a funny-looking tree. Its bark (树皮) is wrinkled (超皱) and looks like elephant skin. The branches look like roots reaching for the sky. But this strange tree has saved the lives of people and animals. The tree stores enough water at the top to last for many months. Animals use the tree as a drinking fountain (水源). Some animals even move in and live among the roots. The animals can stay for a long time. Some baobab trees live for 2000years.

I have spent years of my life traveling all over the world. When I arrive in a new country or city, usually I am _1__ and go to bed. For this reason my first day or night in any__2__place is always quiet and very little happens.
But my first night in Algeciras was very different. This night was very__3__and unusual.
At that time Alseciras in Southern Spain was a dirty and__4__looked-after city. I arrived late in the evening by boat. As soon as I got off the boat, I went to look for a __5__ . I find a small one not far from the boat.

The policeman said, “All patrol cars(巡逻车) have gone out, and a policeman will go to your house when one is free.”
Charlie hung up, waited 30 seconds, and then called the police again. “Hello, I just called a short while ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. I want to let you know that they’re not a problem anymore because I’ve just shot every one of them.”
Charlie then hung up the phone. In five minutes, three patrol cars, nearly twenty policeman and an ambulance arrived at his house. Of course, the police caught the thieves.
One policeman said, “I thought you said that you shot every one of them!”
Charlie replied, “I thought you said there were no patrol cars free!”
