         New York city: It's a cold day in December. A little boy about 10-year-old was standing in front
    of  a  shoe store on Broadway, barefooted  (光着脚),peering(凝视) through the window,  and  shivering (颤抖着) with cold. A lady walked to the boy and said, "My little boy, why are you looking so seriously
    in that window? "
         "I was asking God to give me a pair of shoes. " The boy replied.
         The lady took him by the hand and went into the store, and asked the clerk to get  six pairs of socks
    for the boy.     She then asked if he could give her a basin(盆)of water and a towel. The clerk quickly
    brought them to her. She took the little boy to the back part of the store and, taking off her gloves, knelt
    down,washed his little feet, and dried them with the towel. By this time the clerk had returned with the
    socks.Placing a pair upon the boy's feet, she then bought him a pair of shoes, and tying up the rest pairs
    of socks gave them to the boy.     She patted him on the head and said, "My little boy, do you feel more
    comfortable now?"
         As she turned to go, the surprised boy caught her by the hand, and looking up iii her face! with tears
    in his eyes, answered the question with these words, "Are you  Good's wife?"

           Some friends come into our lives for just a short time. Others come and stay forever. Think about
       your closest friends. How long have you known each other? Some people say that their spouse
      (husband or wife) or family member is their best friend. Others say they have known their closest friends
      for many years. And some great friends haven't known each other all that long, but knew right away that
      there was a connection (联系) between them. Could it be that there is a twin spirit out there for each of
      us?

    The Internet has become part of teenage life. There’s a report on 3,375 students aged from 10 to 18 in seven Chinese cities. It says that 38% of them believe they use the Internet often. While most of them get useful information and use the Internet to help in their studies, some are not using it in a good way. Many are playing online games too much. A few even visit Web sites they should not look at. Bad things can happen if young people spend too much time on the Internet.
    In order to help young people use the Internet in a good way, a textbook on good Internet behavior has started to be used in some Shanghai middle schools this term. It uses real examples to teach students all about good ways of using the Internet. Some students also make online friends. But if you are meeting a friend offline, let your parents know.

    Arriving in New York
    There are three airports in New York. When you arrive at one of them, you can take a bus or a taxi to any place in New York.
    		Eating out
    There are many kinds of food in New York and you shouldn't eat at McDonald's every day. There are good restaurants in Little Italy and Chinatown, for example.
    Hotels
    There are lots of good hotels in New York. The best is The Plaza on 5th Avenue but you don't have to pay a lot to stay in the city; there are lots of smaller hotels and the YMCA near Central Park is great for young people.
    		Public Transport
    In New York ,there's a good bus and subway service. If you are planning to use the subway a lot, you should buy a subway ticket for the journey because it's cheaper. But you don't have to use public transport－there are lots of places you can go to on foot. The Empire Stale Building, 5th Avenue and Central Park. The New York taxis are a part of the city experience, so you should take at least one taxi during your visit!
    Places to see
    Finally, there are a lot of places to see in New York－Times Square, the Statue of Liberty. And you shouldn't go home without climbing the Statue of Liberty to enjoy the scenery of the city.
    		Shopping
    Shopping in New York is fun. There are big shops on 5th Avenue. They are open seven days a week. But be careful when you look at the prices; you have to pay a special 8% tax (税)on everything you buy in New York.
