       Share Your Ideas and Experiences!
Hi, my name is Christina Baum. I'm a fourteen-year-old German students. I'm writing to tell you
about an experiment we are doing at school with our Science teacher. At the beginning of this school
year, Frau Keller showed us films and we read articles about problems in the environment. One day she
said: "I want to know what you think. Please don't tell me what we should do or must do. Tell me what
each of you will do to protect the environment."
She asked us to choose a topic, make a weekly plan and tell the class about it. Then we had to do
things to be "green" and write a report about our achievements. Some students said that they thought it
was impossible for a single person to contribute to the protection of the environment. Someone else said
that scientists should work harder to find new ways to produce energy.
Frau Keller said that it is everyone's job to care for the health of the planet. After the first week everybody in class was excited about the project and wanted to continue to improve their results. Someone
suggested telling the other classes in the school. Now all 768 students at Hermann Stein School are
working on the project. At the end of the year, our class will write a report about what we have achieved.
Next week I'll think about how not to waste water or make it dirty. I'm planning to try and use less
water every day, and also not use so much of the things that make it dirty. Every time I turn on the tap I
must think about how much water and soap I use.
To use less water, this is what I'll do:
       —take a shower instead of baths;
       —turn off the tap while brushing my teeth;
—use less washing-up liquid when washing dishes.
If you want to know more or join us, please write an email to the following address: k.keller@

Are you aged between 14 and 19 years old? Do you care about the environment around you? Would you please help make the area you live in cleaner and safer?
If your answers are “yes”, “yes” and “yes”, then read on! You may be surprised to hear that you can actually (事实上) get money for improving your community (社区).
The “Big Lottery” is giving money to groups of teenagers who want to become active citizens(公民). We have £80,000 to give away. We’re looking for young people to take part in schemes (规划) and projects near to the places they live in.
Here are some easy things you could do to get started:
Meeting the neighbors
Everybody needs good neighbors. Knock on people’s doors and find out what they need to improve in your areas. Set a date for a meeting and then make some plans together. If you don’t want to go around to their houses, you could always put a note through their doors.
Neighborhood watch
Neighborhood watch schemes are very popular in the UK. If you go away on holiday and leave your house, it’s very nice to know that a neighbor is keeping an eye on it. You could set one up easily and quickly.
Lending a hand
There are elderly people living in the neighborhood who may not be able to do the things that you can. Offer to do their shopping once a week, look after their gardens or walk their dogs!
No littering
Nobody likes picking up rubbish, but a clean street can make all the difference. Take it in turns to go out once or twice a week and see what you can find. You never know, one day you might find something valuable!
Recycling
Nearly two-thirds of your rubbish can be recycled. Some areas already provide places for people to recycle bottles, tins, plastic and paper. Find out if this is done in your neighborhood. If it is not, do something about it.
So go on…help make your neighborhood “street ahead”. Just tell us what kind of project you want to get involved in. Then we’ll send you more details. Take positive (积极的) action and help make your neighborhood a better place to live in!
小题1:What is the passage mainly about?
A.Why we should care about the elderly people in our community.
B.What we can do to improve the environment of our community.
C.How we can recycle daily rubbish properly in our community.
D.When we should get the neighbors together to meet their needs.
小题2:Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.The writer doesn’t agree to work for the “street ahead”.

It is reported by Chinese Xinhua News that students waste more food than the national average. So the campaign on school food waste is getting popular across the country. The move is part of a national campaign started by students at different schools.
At East China University of Science, students who finish their food in the school dining hall get a special card when they return their plates after meals. Students can collect cards and exchange them for small gifts, such as books, schoolbags, magazines and umbrellas. “It’s been such a surprise,” said Liang Zhaoyun, 19, a student in Shanghai. “It has given us one more motivation to eat up our food.”
“The purpose of the campaign is not only to encourage students to finish their food. We hope it can also teach students to choose a more environment-friendly and healthy lifestyle,” said Tao Siliang from University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Other schools also pay attention to the quantity of food. At Nanjing No.9 Middle School, rice is divided into three different-sized bowls that students can choose from according to their own need. “It’s great because I can try different dishes at half price and don’t waste so much food,” said Fan Peng, 15, a student from this middle school.
What if you really can’t finish all your food? At Changchun Normal College, they provide a take-away service. “If you can’t finish all your food, you can get a box to take the left food home. Even if you feed the cat, it’s not wasted,” said Zhou Zeyong, a student who learns Chinese education.
“I’m happy that we’ve cut down waste since joining the school ‘eat-up’ meeting. But some food is poorly cooked, meaning that students are not willing to finish it all. Some schools have taken note of this. So if we hope students try to waste less food, we should also improve the service and keep an eye on the meal quality on weekdays at school. If not, you can’t complain students for throwing away much food,” said Wang Guangji, the head-teacher of Beijing No. 29 Middle School.
小题1:Why did we start the campaign on food waste at schools?  Because __________.
A.food waste at school is very serious.
B.students should not eat more food
C.it is students’ duty to eat less food
D.it’s easy for schools to start a campaign
小题2:Who can get some gifts at East China University of Science?
A.Students who buy some special cards.

D.Students who spend money on gifts.
小题3:What’s Tao Siliang’s idea in the passage?
A.Getting small gifts is surprising.
B.Different-sized bowls make students happy.
C.Students should take a healthy lifestyle.
