    One day，Tom's parents told him that his grandpa would retire after working for forty years．Tom said in surprise，“I m only seven，so it means Grandpa has been．．．er．．．a really long time!”

    His parents said，“Yes．That’s why we will have a surprise party for him．”

    Mark Twain and the Old Man

    　　Mark Twain, the famous American writer, liked to play jokes (开玩笑) on others. But once a joke was played on him.

    　　One day Mark Twain was invited to give a talk in a small town. At lunch he met a young man, one of his friends.
