E-waste is fast becoming a serious problem around the world. This report will examine this problem and provide some possible ways to solve it.
We live in a society that is producing and using electronics(电子产品) all the time. It is often cheaper to buy new products than to repair old ones. Also, through clever advertising, companies always encourage people to change their old TVs, mobile phones and computers for the latest models. E-waste is created when we throw away old ones. In the EU alone, about 8,700,000 tons of e-waste is produced each year. Sadly, just over 1,000,000 tons is recycled.
Burying(填埋) e-waste or burning it cause serious problems for the environment. Electronics have dangerous things in them. These things can then get into the ground or pollute the air when they are burnt.
In recent years, ____. However, their plans are not always managed properly. Sometimes electronics are just sent to poor countries such as Ghana. Here they are often burnt in public areas, which is very bad for people’s health. Setting up recycling centers is a good way to solve this problem. E-cycling centers could recycle the parts that can be reused and deal with the rest properly.
Another way is to make producers responsible(负责任) for their used products. This means that producers must take back old products which are no longer wanted. They should then make sure they are properly recycled or reused.
As for us, we should try to cut down on e-waste. Change electronics only when we have to. And don’t buy a product just to have the latest model.
E-waste is a serious problem in the modern world. Both producers and users must take actions and try to keep it to the smallest amount.

The earth is our home.  We must take care of it.  This means keeping the land, air and water clean.
Pollution is a "dirty" word. To pollute means to make things dirty. Pollution comes in many forms. We
see it,  smell it and drink it.   Pollution is beginning to do harm
( 损害,伤害) to our health, and even to our life.
Man has been polluting the earth from the time he first made his fire9 washed his clothes in the river
and threw his rubbish on the ground.  Many years ago, the problem was not so serious because there
were not so many people.  All the dirty things would soon be covered up.  There was plenty of clean air,
land and water.  When the land was used up or the river was dirty in a place, men moved to another
place.  But this is no longer true.  Man is now slowly polluting the whole world.
Talking about pollution, we once only meant air pollution. It is true that air pollution is still the most
dangerous now, but it is only one kind of pollution.
By using poison ( 毒药), we have polluted the land and killed the animals. By putting dirty water into
river and lakes, we have polluted our drinking water and killed the fish.  The rise in population is part of
the problem.  More people,  more rubbish.
Where is this all to end? Are we turning the world into a big rubbish dump, or is there any hope that
we can get rid of ( 摆脱,除去) pollution? We are glad to say that the public has been warned of the
dangers of pollution and a large number of people are working hard to get rid of it.
根据短文内容判断正(T) 误(F)。
(     )1. Taking care of the earth means keeping the land, air and water clean.
(     )2. Pollution is bad for our health, and even to our life.
(     )3. The problem was not very serious because there were many people many years ago.
(     )4. There are many kinds of pollution.  Water pollution is the most dangerous.
(     )5. Many people have realized the dangers of pollution and are working hard to get rid of it.

The world is not only hungry but also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 70% of the earth’s surface is covered with water. But about 97% of that is sea water or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% of fresh water from rivers, lakes, underground and so on. And we can not even use all of that because some of it has been made dirty.
Earth Day is April 22. But on all other days, we must also remember how important water is. The water that we use is the most important natural resource on the earth. Today we face serious water problems. One of them is water pollution. All kinds of things from cars, factories, farms and homes make our rivers, lakes and oceans dirty. Polluted water is very bad for people to drink. And dirty water is bad for fish, too.
How do cars and factories make our water dirty? First they pollute the air. Then when it rains, the rain water makes our drinking water dirty. Dirty rain, called acid rain is also bad for plants, animals and buildings. Scientists say that in 30 years, more than half of the people in the world won’t have enough clean water. We have to learn how to stop wasting water. One of the first steps is to develop ways of reusing it. Today in most large cities, water is used only once and then sent out into a sewer system (下水道). From there it returns to the sea or goes underground.
But even though every large city reused its water, we would still not have enough. So we should make use of sea water by removing the salt in it. If we can take these steps, fresh water won’t be used up.
【小题1】The world is thirsty for water because _______.
A.we don’t have enough fresh waterB.a lot of water goes into sewer systems
C.only 70% of the earth’s surface is waterD.sea water is widely used rather than fresh water
【小题2】From this passage, we know acid rain _______.
A.is only bad for living thingsB.is not bad for buildings and factories
C.can be produced in factoriesD.is bad for people, animals, plants and buildings
【小题3】One difficult way we can solve the problem is to _______.
A.use the water with salt in itB.remove the salt from sea water
C.get water from undergroundD.reuse the water in cities
【小题4】What is the best title for this passage?
A.Fresh water and sea waterB.A thirsty country
C.The importance of waterD.The world’s water problem
