It was a stormy winter day when Mrs. Spodek made her way to the bus stop with her son who sat in a wheelchair. Finally they arrived.
Ten minutes later a bus came by. Looking down at her son's face, Mrs. Spodek realized that her son could not wait any longer.
The bus stopped and Mrs. Spodek began to lift up the wheelchair. "Hey, lady," called out the driver, "this bus does not have a lift for that wheelchair. You are going to have to wait for the next bus."
"Excuse me, "said Mrs Spodek, "but if I wait any longer my son is going to freeze."
Two passengers jumped down to help the mother and son, making it onto the bus. They tried their best to keep the little boy comfortable, while the bus driver continued complaining about the lady pushing her way onto the bus.
When they sat into their seats, a voice could be heard from the back of the bus, "Hey, lady, you should not worry at all. Your son is not the one with the handicap(残疾). It is the bus driver who has the handicap, lady. His mind is handicapped."
Tears rolled down Mrs. Spodek's frozen cheek.
Thirty minutes later when Mrs. Spodek stepped off the bus, the driver joined in helping the mother and son get off.
Just before the driver turned to go back to the bus he said, "Sony, lady. I was wrong."
Mrs. Spodek said, "Thank you for saying so."
Then looking at the boy in the wheelchair, the bus driver said, "You are lucky to have such a nice mom.
The little boy looked back into the driver's eyes and said, "We were lucky to have such a nice driver."
The driver turned to go back to the bus but Mrs. Spodek heard him start to cry, "What a kid! What a kid!"

I grew up in a town called Estepna, living with my father. One morning, when I was sixteen, dad told me I could drive him into a faraway village called Mijas, on condition that (条件是). I took the car to be serviced (维护) at a nearby garage. I happily accepted (接受). I drove Dad into Mijas, and promised to pick him up at 4 p.m., then got the car to the garage. Then I went to a theatre. However, when the last movie finished, it was six. I was two hours late!
I knew Dad would be angry if he found out I'd been watching movies. So I decided not to tell him the truth. When l hurried there I apologized (道歉) for being late, and told him I'd come as quickly as I could, but the car had needed some big repairs. I' ll never forget the look he gave me. "I' m disappointed you decided to lie to me, Jason." Dad looked at me again. "When you didn't turn up, I called the garage to ask if there were any problems, and they told me you hadn't yet picked up the car." I felt ashamed (羞愧) as I told him the real reason. A sadness passed through dad as he listened carefully, "I'm angry with myself. I realized I had failed as a father. I'm going to walk home now and think seriously about where I have gone wrong all these years." "But Dad, it' s eighteen miles!"
My apologies were useless. Dad walked home that day. I drove behind him, following him all the way, but he walked silently.
It was the most successful lesson I have never lied since.
