Jack and Jim were classmates. They lived in the same town. After they left school, Jack kept a flower shop and Jim became a doctor in a hospital. Jim made a girlfriend. He bought a red rose for her each day to show his love. The flowers made his girlfriend very happy. Sometimes he took the rose to her himself. In the evening, when Jack was busy in the shop, Jim came in and looked very angry. “ Jack, how many roses did you give my girlfriend this morning?”“ I gave her thirty roses.” answered Jack.

“Why did you do that?”

“You often buy flowers in my shop for your girlfriend, so I want to give her six more flowers. What happened then?”

“ How foolish you are!” he threw the letter on the table, “ Read it yourself.” Jack picked it up and began to read:

Today is your birthday. I hope you will like my present---the roses. One rose means one year. Wish you are always charming.
