题目列表(包括答案和解析)
There have been many important developments in medicine. The following are two developments that have been very important in saving lives.
Imagine having an operation and being wide awake. This won’t happen, thanks to something called anesthetic.Anesthetics are given to people during operations so that they fall asleep.Anesthetics cause the muscles to relax and the body to become numb(lose all feeling)so that no pain is felt. This helps the doctors to operate more easily.Anesthetics may be taken in different ways:
●Breathing in a gas
●An injection straight into the bloodstream
●Swallowing a tablet
A local anesthetic numbs only the area where the doctor needs to work.A general anesthetic is when a Patient is put into sleep while the doctor operates Anesthetics were first given in 1844.
Heart disease is one of the biggest killers in the world today Luckily, something can be done about it.Someone who has an unhealthy heart can have a heart transport operation.A heart transplant is when the damaged heart of a patient is taken out and a healthy heart is put in.It is said, though, that the healthy heart has to come from someone who has died Doctor Barard from South Africa was the first person to do a heart transplant operation in 1967.Many successful transplants have been done since then.

It is known that most people spend one third of their lives sleeping. So sleeping is important to our health and daily lives. But the problem is that for most people, especially office workers, it is not easy to get enough sleep. For centuries, people have been troubled by insomnia. There are three ways to deal with it
Pay attention to your daily diet!
How well you sleep is closely connected to your daily diet. If you eat fat or hard-to-digest food for supper or eat just before you sleep, it will keep keeping you awake. What should be on your daily menu? For supper, you can choose something low-fat and digestible like fish, chicken or lean meat, rice and wheat. All the foods mentioned above can soothe the nerves(舒缓神经). Avoid foods that cause gas such as potato, corn, bread, carbonic acid(碳酸)drinks. If you still can not sleep well after cutting out these harmful foods, try adding some foods that will make you sleepy
Create a good sleeping environment
A good sleeping environment includes comfortable pajamas, a soft quilt, and most importantly, a comfortable bed.
Do something relaxing
In order to get a good night's sleep, you should not only relax your body, but also your mind. Try to do something to relax your mind before going to bed. Listening to soft music, reading or watching some light TV for half an hour before going to bed is a good way to make you feel sleepy. If you still can't sleep, try some exercise like walking or jogging to get rid of stress and increase your blood circulation(血液循环). Also taking a bath or soaking(浸泡)your feet in warm water can help your blood circulation and relax your body.

Winter break! Two whole weeks without homework-two whole weeks of heaven. Two weeks to relax.I imagined myself getting plenty of sleep.I planned on reading“The Giver”, which I hadn't had time to read.
But soon I noticed something:I couldn't sleep. It would be 12∶30 a. m.and I would be trying to fall asleep.I would begin thinking that I haven't done anything today!
This happened the next night, and the night after.During the day, when I had free time, I would be pacing(踱步)around the room moaning(抱怨)that I had nothing to do! I was eating when I wasn't hungry.I was playing a computer game even though it was boring.
The truth, I concluded, is that relaxation doesn't mean doing nothing.Relaxation means doing something enjoyable.I planned to swim at the local high school.I set up a practice schedule of an hour and a half per day.I decided to read two books that my friend had recommended(推荐)to me.I planned to do a little community service work, volunteering to help at the nearby old people's home for two hours every day. After doing those things, writing e-mails to my friends, watching DVDs and sleeping 12 hours a day, my days are full. And I'm truly having fun relaxing.
Of course, some of my earlier wishes have come true.Being free from school work has taken a load off my mind, helped me to get in perspective(洞察力)and brought me back in touch with my family and myself.Getting so much sleep has done wonders for my state of mind.
After each past winter break, I haven't been able to say what I did, how I used my time. This winter break will be different.I am relaxing by working.
