Nowadays there's a general discussion on zoos among people. These two students write their different ideas on a newspaper.
Zoos Do a Good Job------ Maria Smith
I know a large number of people think it is not wise to keep animals in zoos. ___1__ , I believe that it is good to keep animals in zoos.
Firstly, zoos are places for people to see many different kinds or animals from all over the world. ___2____zoos, most people would never see a real bear or tiger.
Secondly, zoos ___3___the animals very well. The animals are given food and cleaned regularly. In the wild (野外) , it is not always easy for an animal to find food, so sometimes it goes___4____. But animals kept in zoos never suffer from hunger.
Thirdly, zoos protect the animals they take care of. They ___5___them safe places to live in. In the wild, some kinds of animals are in danger of' becoming extinct (灭绝) . But zoos give these animals a chance to live. There would be fewer kinds of animals in the world if there were no zoos.
Zoos Are Unnatural ------Philip Black
In my opinion, zoos are not good for animals; they are only good for people.
It is not natural and    6   to keep wild animals in cages. Most animals are kept in cages that are too small for them. In the wild, these animals would travel __7__. In zoos, they can't do this. This is why the bears and tigers always look so sad.
Most cages are not very clean, either. It is true that zoos give the animals food regularly, but this is not natural. Wild animals _  8    looking for their own food. We should treat animals in the same way that we treat other people----with respect.
Would anyone be happy if you don't let him go outside his home? Would Maria like to have lots of people standing outside her flat looking at her?  No, she wouldn’t. And animals don't like it, either.

A predator(捕食性动物) kills and eats other animals as prey(猎物).Sometimes it also becomes food for other predators. Polar bears are the largest of all the land predators. They can run across snow and swim in icy water for hours without rest. Their favorite food is seal. Not all big animals live on small animals. Hippos have heavy bodies and huge mouths. But they don’t eat animals. They just eat grass.
Some predators use speed to catch their prey. Cheetahs are the fastest animals on land. They can run up to 70km an hour. Other predators use their senses to find their food. Sharks can see, smell, hear, feel and taste. They can also sense electrical currents(电流 )from other animals’ bodies. Some fish try to hide themselves, but with this sixth sense, sharks can always find them. Sharks have smooth bodies. This helps them swim without using lots of energy. They need to save their energy because they never really sleep and never stop hunting. Flying is a useful skill for many predators in the sky. The butcher bird is the most interesting predator. It has a special way of eating its prey. First it kills its prey. Then it hangs it on a fence or in a tree, just like a butcher hangs meat in his shop. Finally, it eats its prey.
Some people hunt and kill more animals than any other predator. They not only hunt for food. They also hunt for fun. They kill sharks for their fins, and tigers for skins. Those human hunters are the worst predators on Earth.

A famous study was done in a school by a professor (教授) from a university. At the start of the school year, the teachers were given the names of five children. They were told that these five were the most excellent students in the class. But the fact was that these students were only average(中等),and they were not the best students at all. Well, guess what? At the end of the year, all the five average students scored among the highest in the class.
What made these average students change so much to become top students? The only difference was the change in their teachers’ attitude(态度). Because the teachers believed that these five kids were the top students, they expected(期望) more from them. And so these five average students began to believe and expect more from themselves. So they worked harder to do as well as they could.
Do you know why? If you expect the best from people, they’ll usually want to give you their best. A great leader said, “Treat(对待) a person just how he appears to be on the outside, and you’ll make him even worse. But treat a person like he’s already a success, and you’ll help make him the best he can be.”
Like the true story of 7-year-old Johnny, his teacher got so angry with him that one day she said,“Johnny, you’re the naughtiest(最顽皮的) boy in this class. I’m sure you’ll never change.” The next year Johnny had a new teacher. And on the first day of class, she met with Johnny after school and said,“Johnny, I’ve heard a lot about you! But do you know that I don’t believe a word of it.” And every day after that, this new teacher treated Johnny as if he was one of the smartest students even when Johnny did naughty things. Later on, Johnny became a school leader. Because that’s the power of our belief(信任) and attitude(态度) toward children.
