"Dash" is a symbol which represents every day we've spent alive on earth．Therefore, how you spend your "dash" is important．

Recently I   36   about a little girl named Hope．After learning more about her life, I couldn't help but feel it was not by   37   , nor happenstance, that she had been named "Hope"．The strong feeling of sympathy and generosity  38   in her young heart made a lasting impression on me and countless others． 39   I never had the opportunity to meet her, I wish I had．It seems as though she was wise beyond her tender years and very, very special．

Hope was a twelve-year-old girl who was   40   a "wish" in early December 2010 by the "Make-A-Wish" Foundation after being   41   that she had a rare type of bone cancer．However, when she found out that more than 150   42   in her area were waiting for their wishes to be granted （实现） , she unselfishly used her wish to   43   that those children have their wishes granted．She also asked tW it be done   44   January 16, 2011．Unfortunately, however, the organization informed her that her   45   request could not be granted as the funds （资金） were simply   46 ．They calculated that they would need to raise more than one   47   dollars in thirty days in order to grant her wish． 48  , but not discouraged, she turned her disappointment into an enthusiasm that inspired caring   49   to take up helping grant the wishes of the other children, and eventually   50    as well．Newspaper columnists and reporters for radio and TV stations 51   the story of this caring young girl who had   52   the hearts of so many and as word spread, the community was challenged．Committees were fanned and schools, corporations and various organizations assisted in   53   money to help make Hope's dream come true．

Her efforts were not in vain as they continue to help others, not only   54   , but spiritually and emotionally as well．At the gathering to celebrate her life, "A Celebration of Hope" on January 16, 2011 , the   55   was made that they had indeed received donations totaling more than one million dollars．Her wish had been granted!

Watching television more than two hours a day early in life can lead to attention problems later in adolescence, according to a study released on Tuesday.

     The roughly 40 percent increase in attention problems among heavy TV viewers was observed in both boys and girls

The link was established by a long-term study of the habits and behaviors of more than1,000 children born in Dunedin, Hew Zealand, between April 1972 and March 1973.

     "Those who watched more than two hours, and particularly those who watched more than three hours, of television per day during childhood had above-average symptoms of attention problems in adolescence," Carl Landhuis of the University of Otago in Dunedin wrote in his report, published in the journal Pediatrics.

   "It suggests that the effects of childhood viewing on attention may be long lasting," Landhuis wrote.

     Landhuis offered several possible explanations for the association.

     One was that the rapid scene changes common to many TV programs may over excite the developing brain of a young child, and could make reality seem boring by comparison.

    "Therefore, children who watch a lot of television may become less tolerant of slower-paced and more mundane tasks, such as school work," he wrote.

     It was also possible that TV viewing may supplant(挤占) other activities that promote concentration, such as reading, games, sports and play, he said.

     Previous studies have linked the habit of long TV watching among children to over weight and diabetes(糖尿病), and another study in the same journal stated the poor nutritional content of the majority of food products advertised on the top-rated US. children's television shows.

     Up to 98 percent of the TV ads promoting food products that were directed at children aged 2 through 11 "were high in either fat, sugar, or salt," wrote Lisa Powell of the University of Illinois in Chicago.

The run-up to the launch of China's first lunar orbiter at the end of this month has caught the country's imagination, with more than two thirds of the nation hoping to see the launch live on TV, according to a survey.                              

According to the survey by China Youth Daily and www.qq.com, almost the entire nation hopes to catch images of the event at some point, with 99 percent of the 10358 respondents saying they expected to witness the satellite launch and 68.9 percent said they were certain to watch the live broadcast of the launch. On www.qq.com and www.sina.com, two popular web portals in the country, internet users have contributed some 2,000 poems and 5000 drawings on the theme of Chang'e I.

"The satellite launch means much more than just saying 'hello' to the moon. Maybe in the future we could also send some people to accompany sister 'Chang'e'," said a college student in the survey.

Remarkably, many people expect to visit the moon one day, with 93.4 percent of respondents saying they expected to do so.

Chang'e I is named after Chang'e, a famous character from Chinese mythology. She ascended from earth to live on the moon as a celestial being after drinking an elixir.

There is also another connection between the moon and China. In the 1970s, a crater on the moon was named after a Chinese stargazer, Wan Hu, who is said to be the first astronaut in human history.

Legend says about 600 years ago, around the middle of the Ming Dynasty, Wan Hu, a local government official, tried to fly into space with the help of a chair, two big kites and 47 self-made gunpowder-filled rockets. According to the legend after the rockets were lit there was a huge bang and lots of smoke. When the smoke cleared Wan was nowhere to be found.
