题目列表(包括答案和解析)
"What’s in a name?”According to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, there is not too much.“That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. "But Shakespeare may have been wrong. In most cultures, names matter a great deal.
Americans choose names for their children with care. Parents usually think about the impression a name gives, not its meaning. Most Americans would consider a “Jennifer” more attractive than a“Bertha",for example. The last name,or,surname, must also be considered when choosing a first and middle name. A name like Lester Chester Hester would sound poetic, but odd. Parents would avoid names that remind them of people they don’t like. On the other hand, people might name their children after a respected elderly relative or even a famous person. The popularity of certain names can change with each new generation. Names that were once common, like Fanny or Elmer, sound old-fashioned today. But other names—like John and David,Mary and Sarah—have stood the test of time and continue to be favorites.
People in Ameica don’t always call their friends and relatives by their given names. Instead, they often use nicknames. Sometimes nicknames are short forms of a longer name. For instance,a girl named Elizabeth may be called Lisa,Beth or Betsy. As children grow up,they may decide for themselves which nickname they wish to be called.
Some people just go by the initials of their first and middle names, like B. J, or R. C. And of course, people may call their children or their sweethearts other special nicknames. Often they have a “sweet” flavor, like Honey or Sugar. What’s in a name? A world of significance. So if you’re choosing an English name for yourself, take care to choose a good one. A made—up name could sound strange to native English speakers. And a translation of your Chinese name may not make an appropriate name, either. But a good name can leave a positive and lasting impression. As an American politician once said,“In real life, unlike in Shakespeare, the sweetness of the rose depends upon the name it bears.”

Robin Hood is a story to which more details have been added for nearly nine hundred years, and that has kept little of its original elements. The early folk tales of Robin Hood have nothing in them to suggest that the people are unfairly taxed, or that Robin Hood gave them his robbery for that matter.
Robin Hood is not a liberator of oppressed (被压迫的) people; he is simply a thief and murderer. He may have started out with lofty (崇高的) ideals, but eventually failed to resist greed (贪婪) , and would do anything to get money. The early tales of Robin Hood contain graphic violence and cold murders. These casual killings decide the folk tales, making them bloodier than any twenty-first century movie.
In one example, Robin meets a knight whose son has killed a fellow competitor in a match. The unlucky knight is forced to pay a bill of four hundred pounds, which he must borrow from the Abbot (修道院院长) of St. Mary’s in York. Neither Robin nor the knight seems to mind much that someone has been killed. Instead the focus is on the money. This is a theme that runs throughout the stories of Robin Hood. It seems that Robin Hood has drifted away from his original idealistic beliefs by the thought, of shiny gold coins in his own pocket jingling (发出叮当声) instead of the pockets of those for whom the gold was intended the poor. There is a saying: “He who seeks to destroy the monster must be careful not to become a monster in the process.” Apparently Robin never heard this proverb.

A. he needed much more money for the oppressed people
B. he was forced to pay a bill for the murder he did

52. According to the text, maybe the original idealistic belief of Robin Hood was ______.
A. to lead the oppressed people to struggle against the rich
B. to help the poor with the money he robbed the rich of
C. to provide foods to the homeless
D. to help kids unable to go to school
53. The proverb in the last paragraph most probably means that __________.
A. if we want to succeed, we must work hard
B. we should never chase after something one is not worthy of
C. to be a great man, we must do what we should do
D. to be a fair man, we must fight against unfair behavior
54. The text is written to _________.
A. give readers a brief introduction to Robin Hood
B. tell us about the cultural background of a book
C. sing high praise of the knights during the Middle Age
D. tell us about the real stories about Robin Hood

Although websites such as Facebook and MySpace experienced rapid growth during the middle of the first decade of the 21st century, some users remain unaware of the fact that the information they post online can come back to haunt them. First, employers can monitor employees who maintain a blog, photo diary, or website. Employers can look for controversial(引起争议的) employee opinions, sensitive information disclosures, or wildly inappropriate conduct. For example, a North Carolina newspaper fired one of its features writers after she created a blog on which she wrote about the strange things of her job and coworkers without signing her real name.
The second unintended use of information from social networking websites is employers who check on prospective employees. A June 11, 2006 New York Times article reported that many companies use search engines and social networking websites such as MySpace, Xanga, and Facebook to conduct background checks on college campuses. Although the use of MySpace or Google to check a student’s background is somewhat unsettling to many undergraduates, the Times noted that the use of Facebook is especially shocking to students who believe that Facebook is limited to current students and recent alum(校友).
Corporate employers are not the only people interested in college students’ lives. The third unintended use of social networking websites is college administrators who monitor the Internet — especially Facebook — for student bad behavior. For example, a college in Boston’s Back Bay expelled (除名) its student Government Association President for joining a Facebook group highly critical of a campus police sergeant. In addition, fifteen students at a state university in North Carolina faced charges in court for underage drinking because of photos that appeared on Facebook.
??? Although more users of websites such as Facebook are becoming aware of the potential dangers of online identities, many regular users still fail to take there basic security precautions(警惕). First, only make your information available to a specific list of individuals whom you approve. Second , regularly search for potentially harmful information about yourself that may have been posted by mistake or by a disgruntled
(不满的)former associate. Thrid, never post obviously offensive material will likely make its way to the wider world. By taking these simple steps, members of the digital world can realize the many benefits of e-community without experiencing some of the damaging unintended consequences.
