(D) Insect's lives are very short and they have many enemies, but they must survive long enough to breed and continue their kind. The less insect like what they look, the better their chance to survive. To look "inedible" by resembling or imitating plants or objects that hold no interested for their enemies is a trick widely practiced by insects. Mammals rarely use this type of concealment, but many fish do. The stick caterpillar is well named: It is hardly distinguishable from a brown or green twig (a small branch of a tree). This caterpillar is quite common and can be found almost anywhere in North America. It is also called “measuring worm "or "inchworm". It walks by bending its body, then stretching out and grasping the branch with its front feet, then bending its body again to bring his hind feet forward. When danger threatens, the stick caterpillar stretches its body away from the branch at an angle and remains firm and still, like a twig, until the danger has passed. Walkingsticks, or stick insects, do not have to assume a firm, twiglike pose to find protection. They look like inedible twigs in any position. There are many kinds of walkingsticks, ranging in size from the few inches of the North American variety to some tropical species that may be over a foot long. When at rest their front legs are stretched out, imitating the thorny bushes or trees in which they live. Leaves also seem to be a favorite object for insects to imitate. Many butterflies can suddenly disappear from view by holding their wings and sitting quietly among the leaves that they resemble. 92. The word "inedible" is probably close in meaning to A. not suitable to be imitated B. can not be seen C. not suitable to be eaten D. can not be invaded 93. According to the passage, how does the stick caterpillar make itself look like a twig? A. By laying its body flat against a branch. B. By changing the color of its skin. C. By hiding itself between the leaves. D. By holding its body firm and motionless. 94. Which of the following is True of stick insects? A. They resemble their surroundings all the time. B. They make themselves look like other insects. C. They do their best to conceal themselves when walking. D. They usually hide themselves in the thorny bushes. 95. What is the main subject of the passage? A. How to improve the surroundings in which insects live. B. Why insects have to survive long enough. C. How some insects hide themselves and confuse their enemies. D. Some insects are threatened by their enemies and faced extinction. Not only gives us advise but is free. B. We may control over what we eat. C. A new website gives us nutritional analysis. D. Eating properly does good to our health. E. 第三部分阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
A
Two traveling angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family. The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the guest room. Instead the angels were given a space in the cold basement. As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it. When the younger angel asked why, the older angel replied. “Things aren’t always what they seem.”
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable(好客的) farmer and his wife. After sharing the little food they had, the couple let the angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night’s rest. When the sun came up the next morning, the angels found the farmer and his wife in tears. Their only cow, whose milk had been their only income, lay dead in the field. The younger angel was very angry and asked the older angel, “How could this happen? Why did you watch out for the cow? The first man had everything, yet you watched over his house,” she accused, “The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you did not help.”
“Things aren’t always what they seem,” the older angel replied.
“When we stayed in the basement, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.
