National Day Celebration

China will hold grand National Day celebrations (庆祝) this morning in Beijing, marking the 50th anniversary (周年) of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The celebrations include a rally(集会), and a military and civilian parade (阅兵游行),which will begin at about 10 a. m, at Tan’anmen Square, a traditional venue for the country’s most important political events.

Top Chinese leaders, foreign guests and representatives (代表) of overseas Chinese and compatriots (爱国人士) from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan will attend the celebrations, together with some 500,000 soldiers and civilians from all walks of 1ife across the country.

People will have a chance to see the country’s state of the art weapon’s shown in the military parade.

The celebrations are expected to last about two hours.

China’s first military and civilian parade was held on October 1, l949, when the late Chairman Mao Zedong declared the founding of the people’s Republic of China on the Tan’anmen Rostrum.

The celebrations are to be televised and broadcast live by China Central Television(CCTV) and China Radio International(CRI)

A grand flag-hoisting ceremony will also be held at Tian’anmen Square at about 10 a. m. this morning. Chinese leaders, representatives of people from all walks of life on the Tian’anmen Rostrum, and tens of thousands of people at the square will watch the ceremony.
