Japanese people, who never miss a chance to be photographed, were lining up to get their pictures on a postage stamp. Vanity (虚荣) stamps with personal photographs went on sale for the first time in Japan as pan of an international postage stamp exhibition. The customer's photo was taken with a digital camera and then printed on stamp sheets, a process that takes about five minutes. Sold in a sheet d 10 stamps for $ 8.80, little more than time cost of lunch in Tokyo, each stamp printed a different scene from a traditional paintings along with the photo.

The stamps can be used normally to mall a letter, and postal officials hope they will help encourage interest in letter writing in the Internet age. "Certainly e-mall is a method d communication, but letters are fun in a different way," said Hatsumi Shimizu, an official in the Post Ministry. "We want to show young people that letters can be fun too."

While similar stamp sheets appeared in Australia in 1999 and are now sold in some 12 nations and territories, Japan's fondness for commemorative (纪念的) photos is likely to make them especially popular hem. Indeed, officials had prepared 1,000 sheets but they were sold out in less than 30 minutes. Although the stamps are currently only available as a special service during the exhibition, postal officials said they may start selling them on a regular basis in the future.

BEIJING (Associated Press 美联社) -China has a growing middle class, a tradition (传统) of expecting education and 21 million new babies every year. Selling educational toys should be easy.

While China may be the world’s biggest toymaker, many of the best are exported (出口). Department stores here do not have enough high quality toys. It is said that the demand for educational toys is low.

A US company, BabyCare, is trying to change that with a new way to sell toys in China.

BabyCare works basically together with doctors in Beijing hospitals. People who join the company’s "mother club" can get lectures and newsletters on baby and child development at no extra cost, if they agree to spend 18 dollars a month on the company’s educational toys and childcare books.

"We want to build a seven year relationship with those people," said Matthew J. Estes, BabyCare’s president. "It starts during pregnancy (孕期), when the anxiety and needs are highest." BabyCare works on a one-to-one basis. Doctors, nurses, and teachers paid by BabyCare advise parents and explain toys that are designed for children at each stage (阶段) of development to age six.

BabyCare opened its first store in China last June in a shopping center in central Beijing and another near Beijing Zoo. It plans to have 80 stores in China within six years.

It is a new model for China and develops a market in young children’s education and health that no other companies are in.

Have you ever heard of Paynes Prairie? It is one of the most important natural and historical areas in Florida. Paynes Prairie is located near Gainesville. It is large, 21,000 acres. This protected land is called a preserve. The Florida Park Service manages the preserve.

The Paynes Prairie basin was formed when limestone dissolved(分解)and the ground settled. It is covered by marsh(沼泽)and wet prairie vegetation. There are areas of open water. During brief periods it has flooded enough to be considered a lake. Except for that, the basin has changed little through time.

Man has lived on Paynes Prairie a very long time. He lived there as far back as 10,000 B. C. At one time, the Seminoles lived there. The prairie is thought to have been named after King Payne, a Seminole chief. During the late 1600s, the largest cattle ranch(大牧场)in Florida was on Paynes Prairie. Today, Paynes Prairie is preserved land. It is occupied by visitors and Florida Park Service employees.

William Bartram visited Paynes Prairie. Bartram was the first person who portrayed(described)nature through personal experience as well as scientific observation. He lived 200 years ago. He visited Paynes Prairie in 1774. At that time he described it. He called Paynes Prairie the“great Alachua Savannah.”

Most of the animal life, which Bartram described, is still here. A large number of sandhill cranes, hawks and waterfowl(水鸟)are here in winter. The animal diversity is increased by the presence of pine flat woods, hammock, swamps and ponds.

The Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park is open year round. The Florida Park Service works hard so that the park will appear as it did in the past. It offers many opportunities for recreation(娱乐). At the Park you can camp and picnic. You can hike and bike. You can boat and fish. You can ride on horse trails. And you can see lots of nature and wildlife. You can see Florida as it was in the early days.

Paynes Prairie is a part of our Florida history. It is an example of our Florida natural resources. It is a place for recreation. Paynes Prairie is an important experience of the Real Florida.
