Nie Haisheng dreamt of flying in the sky. The dream of the child came 　1 　on October 12 when the Shenzhou VI blasted off into the sky.

He was born in a small village in September 1964. Thousands of kilometers away from the launch site in Gansu Province, his seriously 　2 　mother watched the exciting moment on TV, 　3 　on a hopital bed in his hometown, Zaoyang in Hubei Province.

She had 　4 　children and worked on a farm with her husband. She 　5 　a cerebral haemorrhage (脑溢血)last year, so she cannot speak now.

Nie lived in the village until he was 18 along with his six elder sisters and a 　6 　brother doing farm work and studying. Although his family was very poor, his parents tried their best to send him to school. But later he went to school again and graduated from high school with good grades.

Like Fei Junlong, Nie Haisheng worked as a fighter pilot in 1984, and along with China’s 　9 　astronaut Yang Liwei and several others, Nie was selected as one of China’s 　10 .

Yang describes Nie as persistent(坚持的), brave and prudent(谨慎的). “He doesn’t talk much. He is a hard-working and friendly guy,” Yang said.
