The United States and Great Britain went to war with Iraq in late March 2003. After 20 days, American soldiers were in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. They brought down the government of Saddam Hussein. Thousands of Iraqis died in the war. Saddam Hussein was finally caught on Saturday, 13th of December.
In some parts of the city there was no electricity because of the war. Oil wells(油井)were set on fire. Now the Iraqis need food, water and medicine. Many soldiers and people who were hurt in the war need hospital care. People also need to work out a way to find family members.
After the war, some Iraqis broke into Saddam’s palaces, government buildings and stores. They stole many things from Iraqi museums. Some Iraqis are angry that the U.S. soldiers didn’t stop the robbers.
The reason American soldiers went to war is that they were looking for weapons of mass destruction(大规模杀伤性武器). But they haven’t found any yet.

Earth Day was started in 1970 by a man named John McConnell from the United States. In the beginning, it was held on one day in spring when the day and night are of the same length around the world. Now it is celebrated on April 22. Earth Day is now celebrated all over the world.
Earth Day is a very special day. It makes all of us think about problems we make for the earth. It is not only a special day in the city where we live, but a day that the whole world celebrates.
Some countries have Earth Day celebrations, and some people and groups join in Earth Day projects(计划) such as “Protect Our Home”, and “Water for life”.
You can join in one of the projects, or start one of your own. It can be something small like planting a tree with your mom, or something large like cleaning up a park with your classmates or friends. You can do almost anything. Try to think of something you would like to do.
Why do we celebrate Earth Day? Because we have only one earth and it is our only home. It is getting very dirty. It is our duty to protect our beautiful home. Earth Day is a day to call on people around the world to save our earth.
