书面表达

Dear friends,

I’m very glad to have this chance to speak here to so many young people.

My dream is a simple but great one ----- to be a school teacher. You may wonder why, for the teacher’s job is hard and the pay is poor. I have my own idea about it. I have had the dream of becoming a teacher since my childhood. As is known to all of us, the teacher’s job is very important and necessary for social and economic development. To me, it is a pleasure to be with small children. They make me feel young and I don’t think it waste of time to teach small children. On the contrary, I think it’s a valuable job.

That’s all have to say. Thank you.

One of the interesting things about Cuba is its educational system. As in many other countries, schools are free. What is unusual is that schools combine study with manual work. Each school has a plot of land where the children work for each day. They plant vegetables, which they weed and water, and later they harvest the crops. In this way they develop good working habits and learn how important it is to produce. Usually, children do not like vegetables such as spinach(菠菜), green beans, or cabbage. But by growing vegetables themselves, Cuban children soon develop a taste for them. During the summer, older children also go to the country to help the farmers with the crops.

In this system, the children spend part of their school time studying and the rest working in the open air helping increase the nation’s production.

Francis Bacon, one of the most important philosophers(哲人) of England, was born in London and educated at Cambridge University. When he was only 15, he went to France to work for the English ambassador (大使).

Two years later he went back to England to study law. At the age of twenty three he was chosen to parliament (议会). His ideas about how scientists should study things in nature help to bring the modern way of thinking, called the scientific method.

One of the Bacon`s best-known books was his Essays. Each essay was a short piece of writing in which he tried to give a lesson by discussing sides of a subject such as studying, conversation, friends and healthy living. In many of his books, Bacon explained how scientists should study things as they really existed in nature and then tried to figure out what caused a particular thing to be as it was.
