In a shop in Los Angeles, USA, what attracts people most is a floor-to-ceiling chocolate fountain. This fountain shows a series of small molten chocolate falls and it is the tallest chocolate fountain in the world. Designed by the award-winning cook Jean Maury, the fountain took a year and a half in planning and designing. The chocolate sculpture is 27 feet tall. About 2,100 pounds of molten milk and chocolate runs down this big fountain. "I’ve been creating sculptures out of chocolate for years, but it is exciting to try to use molten chocolate,"said Jean Maury, "each of the three types of chocolate behaves very differently, and we had to notice this in the design. It’s been a wonderful challenge!"
The appearance of the fountain is as attractive as its wonderful taste: milk, dark and white chocolate streams are falling down from six pipes in the ceiling to 25 glass containers. Some are square, some are round, and each is different. Three rivers of dark, two of milk and one of white run from container to container, then flow down to the next container. The fountain’s power equipment is a system of pipes and pumps. Six pumps join forces to bring the molten chocolate to the top of the fountain through pipes hidden within the walls of the shop. Surrounding each pipe is an additional three-inch pipe through which hot oil flows to keep the chocolate thin as it goes up the wall to make its entrance. More than 500 feet of these pipes flow chocolate 24 hours a day. The fountain’s full height is 27 feet, yet only 14 feet of it can be seen within the shop.
