1、[单选]

本文词数:281 参考时间:2'20''

Growing up anywhere is difficult, but growing up in a place like East Africa is a struggle that is beyond imagination. Put yourself in the shoes of an East African child and you can feel how hard growing up there really is. Maybe I should say "feet", because many children there do not wear shoes.

You are lucky to be still alive at the age of six. By that time, many of your friends may have died of different kinds of diseases or not having enough food. If both your father and mother are alive it is another miracle. Life expectancy for men is 40 years in East Africa and 42 years for women. In many areas, you never see gray-haired men. Malaria is still the number one killer in East Africa, but AIDS comes in the second place. Go into any school and ask how many children have only one parent, or no parents. You will be surprised at the numbers. In a country like Uganda, with a population of 20 million, there are as many as 1.5 million children who lost their parents to AIDS. There is a rebel activity in the north and west of Uganda. There is malaria and other illnesses. These are all different wars. AIDS is a silent killer that spreads through offices, villages, schools and government institutions. In fact, many companies refuse to pay for more than one funeral a month for their employees, since death comes so frequently to families.

As the life is so hard in East Africa, we need to try our best to help people there. African children need a better living condition for growing up. They need our help.

[ 写作点评 ] My Favorite Place

My favorite place is nature. Nature is a fun place, especially if you take a camera with you. I like to travel with my parents and take pictures of landscape and flowers. I like to enjoy the cool breeze in the forest. I like to catch small fish in the clear streams. I also like to hear the songs of the wild birds.

But unfortunately our country’s population is growing and the natural landscape is disappearing quickly. Now there are so few natural landscapes left that you can count them on one hand.

Luckily, there are special forest rangersthat protect the forests and nature. Thus, people can still enjoy the natural beauty.
