M: We sometimes went hiking in the mountains and sometimes spent the days by the sea swimming.
W: What’s the weather like there?
M: Well, the weather in Hainan Island is warmer and wetter than other places of China. This is because Hainan Island is in the southern part of the country and the wind often comes from the warm sea. The wind picks up the water from the sea. When this wind hits the mountains of Hainan Island, the air rises and then the rain falls.

I’m going to be 18 next month. These days I often say to myself: you are no longer a child; you are a grown man. But actually I still look like a child. Many of my classmates think I’m only 16. Many people say I look like my mother. She is short, only about five feet. But I’m already much taller than her; I’m five feet three inches. I look like my mum also in many other ways. We have the same blue eyes, the same blond hair, the same fair skin. I don’t like my skin; it makes me look rather girlish. Fortunately I have a Roman nose like my father’s which makes me look manly. I’m proud of my nose. Now I’m studying in Germany. I’d like to make many friends there.
