The history of Chinese words can be seen by looking at how their characters developed.
There is a legend that 50 that a man named Cang Jie invented Chinese writing thousands of years ago by seeing the footprints 51 by birds and animals in the snow while he was hunting one winter day. An idea came to his mind that different shapes or pictures 52 be used to represent different objects, which were just the first Chinese characters. The first real Chinese characters, either simplified or made more 53 over time, were pictographs at first. However, they have developed from drawings into standard forms. 54 is known to all is that not all characters are used to describe objects only. 55 , some of them are used to express ideas or actions by combining two elements together, for example, “rest” “prisoner” and so on..
