W: Yes, of course. Shall we give her some flowers?

M: Sounds great. How about the weather?
W: The sun shone every day.
M: Did you like the people there?
W: Yeah, they were great too. We met some farmers and had a chat with them in their house.
M: When did you get back? Last night?
W: No, we came back this morning. We got up at 4:00, left at 4:30 and arrived here at 8:30. I’m so tired now. What about you? Did you enjoy your weekend?

M: Is there anything interesting on?
W: There’s also a new Peking Opera put on for the first time. I wonder if you are interested.
M: Why not?
W: I don’t think we have time to go back to the hotel if we go to watch the opera, so let’s get something in the nearby restaurant.
W: OK.
9. W: First of all, I would like you to tell me a bit about what you’ve been doing.
M: Well, I left school after I’d done my A-levels. I really wanted to study art. But a friend of my father’s offered me a job, to be an accountant in the city.
W: I see. In your application, you say that you only spent half a year with this accounting film. Why was that?
M: To be honest, I didn’t like it. So I entered the Art College a year ago.
W: What do you do in your spare time?
M: I like jazz and folk music. I go to the theater occasionally and act a bit myself. I also like reading and I’ve done a bit of photography. What’s more, I’ve traveled a lot, especially in Europe.
W :Very interesting. I think that’s all I want to ask about your background. I will inform you as soon as we make the decision.
M: OK, thank you very much.
10. During the early morning of February 24, George White was traveling on a country road in Newberry when he fell asleep, ran off the road, and hit a tree head on. The accident was severe and he was unconscious. After 30 minutes or so, a newspaper carrier passed by. She noticed the crash and called 911. Before help arrived, this lady, a complete stranger, sat in her car beside George’s vehicle, and called out to him repeatedly: “ Help is on the way.” She wanted to get out of her car and help him in some way, but she couldn’t. She could only offer the comfort of her voice because she was handicapped and could not walk.
Several minutes later, the ambulance came and George was sent to a hospital. He is now home, and should have a complete recovery over the next few months.

Some festivals are held to honor the dead and to satisfy the ancestors. For the Japan festival Obon, people should go to clean the graves and light the incense in memory of their ancestors. In Mexico, people celebrated the Day of the Dead in early of November. In this important feast day, people eat food in the shape of skulls and cakes with “bones” on it. Halloween also had its origin in old belief about the return of the spirits of dying people. It is now children’s festival, where they can dress up and go to their neighbors’ homes to ask for sweets. If the neighbors do not give them any sweets, they might play a trick on them.
