67. Which of the following statements is NOT true?
D
Oscar nominations (提名)don’t come out until Jan.23, and the awards aren’t until Feb.25. Here are several movies that look like best-picture competitors.
Little Children
Director: Todd Field
Little Children keeps much of the power and humor of Tom Perrotta’s wonderful novel. The novel was darkly funny, and the film tries to mirror that quality. The main characters are adults who often act like children. Brad(Patrick Wilson) would rather play football than study for the bar exam he has repeatedly failed.
Flags of Our Fathers
Director: Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood just keeps getting better. He seemed best in 2003 when he made Mystic River and then Million Dollar Baby in the following year. Who would have thought he could best be himself with a great film about World War II? The story built around the battle of Iwo Jima between the US and Japan. The battle scenes are graphically depicted.
The Queen
Director: Stephen Frears
British prime minister Tony Blair’s failure with the royal family in the excellent drama The Queen, will mirror moviegoers’ reactions as real-life events unfold among imagined story following the death of Princess Diana. The Queen is the kind of challenging and well-written film that filmgoers long for but rarely get. The changing way of British life is examined.
Stranger Than Fiction
Director: Marc Forster
Stranger Than Fiction is a praise to the power of literature. But art is not its only field. It also looks into the world of final certainties: death and taxes. The story facing the coming death offers a window into the soul of an Everyman, as well as into the nature of creative inspiration. An English professor, wonderfully played by Dustin Hoffman, becomes a key player.

What is the hottest word of 2008 in China? Google, the world’s top search engine, gave its list this month. “Shanzhai”, a Chinese term, which literally refers to the mountain spots of robbers but has developed to mean “copycatting or imitation”, came at the top.
It’s true that “shanzhai” is everywhere. There are“shanzhai” phones called “Nakia” and “Anycoll”. There are “shanzhai” stars who dress and act like celebrities such as Jay Zhou.
There are “shanzhai” versions of movies, songs and TV programs. And recently a crowd of youths has drawn eyes from around the country preparing for the amateur Spring Festival ceremony, in which ordinary people are invited to submit work.
“I want to watch the amateur gala on Spring Festival Eve,” said 19-year-old Fan Xiaojie in Wuhan. “The performers, without much limit, will ‘express themselves in a bolder and funnier way than those on CCTV.’”
“‘Shanzhai’ is a way for young people to have their voices heard in a world ruled by authorities,” said GuHaibin, a sociologist from Renmin University. Made cheaply and easily, “shanzhai” versions give ordinary people an opportunity to express themselves.
Gu said the copycat trend also promotes a DIY(do it yourself) attitude. “With the spread of the Internet, it has become easier to publish works and get an access to technology. This has made DIY more possible.”
Li Xinlian, a psychologist in Beijing, thought about why “shanzhai” is getting popular at this particular time.“ It meets people’s need to express strong feelings and release, especially after this year’s many sad events such as the snowstorm, earthquake and financial crisis,” said Li. “The‘shanzhai’ spirit pokes fun at authorities and at ourselves. It provides a release.”
However, experts reminded that copycat works can break copyright laws. The laws allows copying the form of a copyrighted work, but not the content. Lyrics or melody of a song are also protected from commercial uses.

Here in a nutshell is the life of a teenager: school is a problem; friends are a problem. Some days I look at teenagers and feel that their too-heavy backpacks aren’t filled with books but with a thousand pounds of problems.
Anxious anticipation
There was some proof of this at the start of the school year. Most students look to the beginning of the school year with anxious anticipation(参与). They are both nervous and excited about the new things they will learn, about the old friends they will see, and the new friends they will meet. But this year, the thought of returning to school filled four Shanghai students with such fear that they tried to kill themselves. One of them succeeded.
Why should this be? Well, I don’t know their exact circumstances, but obviously these teens thought the burden of their problems was too heavy to carry.
Part of life
Problems are part of life (Just ask your parents!) but most teenagers don’t have enough knowledge and experience to deal with them. That makes the problems bigger than they actually are: a failed test, an argument with a friend, the pressure of parents’ high expectations. And many teens think that they are the only ones who have these problems or feel this way.
Big secret
Well, I will tell you a big secret: everyone fails sometimes; everyone is lonely sometimes; everyone is scared sometimes. No one is perfect and no one has a perfect life.
And, I will tell you another big secret: “time” makes most problems disappear. Today’s problem that looks like a mountain tomorrow will look like a grain of sand. Well, to be honest, it may take a little longer than 24 hours for that mountain to crumble but, eventually, it will. Your future really is bright.
Always believe in the future.
