One morning I was woken by my mother’s angry voice. I opened my eyes and found it was seven forty, so I jumped out of bed and rushed to a nearby bus stop without breakfast. Fortunately the bus started going as soon as I got on it. I was sure I could reach the school before the bell rang.
However, the bus suddenly stopped. There was something wrong with it and we had to get off and wait for another one. I felt I couldn’t wait and the school was only fifteen minutes’ walk, so I ran to the school as fast as possible. Just at this moment, it began to rain hard.
I reached the classroom with all my clothes wet through. Mr. Smith, our physics teacher, had begun his class. I was always afraid of him. I hesitate(犹豫) for a moment, and then I opened the door.
“It’s you again, Jim,” Mr. Smith said angrily. I’ve told you not to be late, but you …”. Then he suddenly stopped when he noticed my wet clothes. He quickly took off his own jacket and asked me to put it on. “I don’t want you to catch a cold,” he said kindly. I went to my seat with Mr. Smith’s jacket on. It was a bit large for me but I felt very warm in it. I found, for the first time, Mr. Smith’s physics class so interesting and I changed my mind, there and then, about being afraid of him.

One thousand hours – that is what my husband and I spent on a journey into Mexico, Belize and Guatemala last summer.
We started off in Carefree and drove 7000 miles round trip in his 10-year-old Land Rover. We made only one reservation(预定房间) in San Pedro, Belize for five days. Throughout the rest of our six-week trip, we paid little attention to timelines or exact visiting places, which added to the adventure.
Our first stop was the city of San Antonio, in Texas. It was on our “must return” list. From San Antonio, we went through Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. After getting our Mexican car insurance and crossing the border, we headed for the third largest city in Mexico, Monterrey.
In Monterrey we spent nights in Tampico, Veracruz, and Isla Aguada. Each offered good accommodations(住宿) and food and ocean views. And then we stopped at several Mayan ruins for exploration and hiking.
Our next stop was Chetumal, the closest Mexican border town to Belize. I can’t say enough about the energy and life of this town. There were live music and artists on almost every corner along the main shopping walkways. From Chetumal, we entered Belize. Our journey continued farther into Central America as we entered Guatemala. We drove on the main highway, a dirt road and then to Flores, which is a beautiful little island town on Lake Peten Itza.
Heading toward home, we visited Morelia, Guadalajara, Alamos and San Carlos in Mexico. It was an amazing adventure, and we’re planning another adventure to South America.
