Dear Editor,

I want to get along well with my classmates, but I can't because I am very quiet. I can't find words to say when others are talking with me. I'm very impressed by those girls who always keep talking and smiling. Now I feel alone in our class. What shall I do?

Lanlan

Dear Lanlan,

If the world was full of people who are always talking, it would be a very noisy place! Some people are quite while others like to talk a lot-this makes for a balanced life.

You must know your classmates quite well so you should find the confidence to speak out. But only do this if you want to do it, not because you feel you should do it. People don't win friends by being noisy. As long as you are honest with your classmates and don't try to be someone you are not, they will respect you. Just because you are quite, it doesn't mean you are unpopular. If you feel lonely and want to talk to someone, then do so. I am sure they will be happy to respond.
