You could be a heroic hunter by expecting to fight against evil monsters or the fastest F1 driver around .In the world of computer games, nothing is impossible.

If you’re into computer games, E3 is where you can find the most up-to-date equipment. For both gamers and companies, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), held in Los Angeles, US, for three days from May 10, was a carnival (狂欢节).

The top three computer game manufacturers (生产商) in the world all showed off their new machines. Nintendo’s (任天堂) new game controller looks as easy to use as a TV remote.

Sony’s PlayStation 3 combines the world’s most powerful game console (游戏机) with a next-generation DVD player.

Microsoft’s Xbox 360 can connect to personal computers (PC.and cell phones, so users can transfer game content among the three systems.

   PC VS Console

The E3 also had new games for both PCs and consoles such as the Xbox or PlayStation. Gamers will again be faced with the long—existing problem of which system to use.

Some analysts have suggested that PC gaming has seen its day, since console players have made great advances.

Further, compared with a PC, a console is cheap. The average price of the PlayStation and the Xbox is only one-third of that of a personal computer.

One of the biggest advantages the PC has over consoles is that there are a lot more games available, plus many are free to download. PCs also give gamers a variety of ways to connect to the Internet, and to one another.

However, many consoles now support online games as well. It seems that as long as people can be dragon(龙)hunters or crazy drivers, it doesn’t matter whether it is on a PC or a console.

WELLINGTON, September 19 (Xinhua) -- If your teenage son won't get out of bed in the morning, then take comfort from the fact that he might be sleeping his way to a healthier future, according to a new research from New Zealand.

Researchers in human nutrition at the University of Otago have found that teenage boys who sleep less have more body fat when compared to girls, for whom lack of sleep has no noticeable effect on their body fat ratios.

The study of 386 boys and 299 girls aged 15 to 18 found that average-sized 16-year-old boy weighing 69.5 kg and 176 cm tall, who slept for eight hours a day, had a waist size l.8 cm bigger and l.6 kg, or 9 percent, more body fat than the average-sized boy who slept 10 hours a day.

"The boys who slept eight hours a day would also have l.8 kg more lean (bone and muscle) mass compared to the boys who slept 10 hours, but that's only a 1.4-percent increase, compared to the 9- percent increase seen in body fat," said lead researcher from the Department of Human Nutrition, Dr. Paula Skidmore.

"Our results suggest that for older teenage boys, making sure that they get enough sleep may help to maintain a healthier body. It seems to be that, within reason, the more sleep the better for boys," Skidmore said in a statement Thursday.

"It was unexpected that we did not find the same result in girls, who may actually be more aware of their diet and more in tune with a healthier lifestyle."

The researchers ruled out the effects of food choice and number of screens, such as televisions, games and consoles, which the teenagers had in their bedrooms.

1.What's the research really about?

A. Boys and girls.      B. Food and weight.           C. Sleep and health.          D. Screens and fat.

2.What's the result of less sleep for teenage boys?

A. Bigger waist and more fat in the body.

B. An increase in weight and height.

C. More concerned with their diet.

D. A decrease in bone and muscle.

3.From the sixth paragraph we can infer that ______.

A. girls usually sleep less and have healthier lifestyles than boys

B. the researchers expected to see the same result in girls

C. peoples' diet has a great effect on their health

D. boys are usually lazier than girls

4.Who would be the most pleased to hear the news?

A. Teachers.    B. Girls.         C. Parents. .            D. Boys.

Compared to adults, children seem to be moving constantly. So it's no surprise that most parents who are quizzed about their child's physical activity level describe their children as fairly active. But a new study of nearly 2000 British school children suggests that many parents overestimate the amount of physical activity their children are really getting.

The researchers equipped 1892 British school children, ages 9 and 10, with accelerometers that measure all physical  activity  during  a  given  time  period.  The research, known as the Speedy study collected the exercise data from children at  92  schools  in  Norfolk,England, between April and July 2007.

A child was regarded inactive if he or she recorded less than an hour a day of physical activity. Although the majority of children studied were getting enough physical activity, a_sizable_minority_of_children_were_not. Overall,39 percent of girls and 18 percent of boys studied were getting less than an hour of physical activity each day.

But if you asked the parents of the inactive children to describe their child's activity level, the vast majority—80 percent—described their children as fairly or very physically active, according to the findings published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Interestingly, the children themselves had more awareness about their lack of physical activity. Overall, 40 percent of children overestimated their physical activity.

But it wasn't the parents of overweight children who were most likely to guess wrong about physical activity levels. The parents who were most out of touch about their child's physical fitness were more likely to  have children who were slim. Parents of girls were also more  likely  to  overestimate  physical  activity.  The  researchers noted that parents should be educated about the importance of physical activity for children even if the child is not overweight.

“Parents of slim children appear to assume that  their children are adequately active.”the study authors  reported. “Increasing awareness regarding health benefits of physical activity beyond weight control might  help have a correct idea of physical activity levels and encourage behavior change.”

60.According to the Speedy study, what kind of children   can be judged physically inactive?

A. Slim children.

B. Children with less than an hour a day of physical activity.

C. Overweight children.

D. Children out of touch with their parents for a long time.

61.What does the writer probably mean by saying “a sizable minority of children were not”in Paragraph 3?

A. The amount of children's physical activity is far from the writer's satisfaction.

B. Only a small number of children were not getting enough physical activity.

C. A small number of children didn't overestimate their physical activity.

D. The minority of children were not studied at all.

62.The passage is intended to________.

A. encourage parents to fairly judge their children's physical activity levels

B. persuade parents to keep an eye on their children's weight

C. urge children to wear accelerometers during exercise

D. advise parents to keep in touch with their children

Researchers found that walking around with a forced smile and fake (假的) happiness simply leads to people feeling unhappier. So, putting a brave face on your sadness could be harmful. The research also found that women suffered more than men when pretending to be happy.

Dr. Brent Scott, who led the study, said employers should take note because forcing workers to smile when dealing with the public can result in bad outcomes. He said, “Smiling for the sake of smiling can lead to emotional tiredness, and that’s bad for the organization.” He also said the research showed customer-service workers who had “fake smiles” throughout the day fell into a bad mood and didn’t want to work, so their productivity dropped.

The study is one of the first of its kind to examine emotional expressions over a period of time and compare the different effects on men and women. Dr. Scott’s team examined the effects of “surface acting”, or fake smiling, compared to “deep acting”, or making people smile by thinking of pleasant memories.

Dr. Scott said, “Women were harmed more by surface acting, meaning their moods worsened even more than men’s. However, they were helped more by deep acting, which means their moods improved more by thinking of pleasant memories. ”

According to Dr. Scott, women tend to suffer more when pretending to be happy because they are expected to be more emotionally expressive than men. Therefore, forcing a smile while feeling down is more likely to go against their normal behavior and cause more harmful feelings.

Although deep acting can improve moods a little in the short term, Dr. Scott says, it’s not a long-term solution to feeling unhappy. “There have been some suggestions that if you do this over a long period you start to feel unreal. You’re trying to develop positive emotions, but at the end of the day you may not feel like yourself any more.”

1.According to the passage, Dr. Scott’s study ______.

A. is supported by some big employers in the USA

B. is meaningful as there haven’t been many similar ones

C. examined more women than men for a long time

D. aimed to make the employees more productive

2.Women suffer more from fake happiness mainly because ______.

A. they usually become shy in public places

B. they are supposed to be more emotionally expressive

C. they are often treated in a terrible way

D. they like thinking of pleasant memories

3.It is implied in the passage that deep acting _____.

A. doesn’t have any effect on men

B. cannot improve our moods in any case

C. harms our feelings in the long run

D. pleases people by feeling like another person
