A father's job is unique. If parents had job descriptions, mine would read: organize bills, play dates,
laundry, meals, carpool, snacks and outings. The only thing on my husband's description would be the
word "fun" written in big red letters along the top.
Our parenting styles complement each other. His style is a nonstop adventure where no one has to
worry about washing their hands, or eating vegetables. I'm too busy worrying to be fun. Besides, every
time I try, I am constantly outdone by my husband.
I bought my children bubble gumflavored toothpaste, and I taught them how to brush their teeth.  They
thought it was neat until my husband taught them how to rinse(濑口)by spitting out water between their
two front teeth like a fountain.
I tried singing fun songs as I washed behind my children's ears during bath time. They enthusiastically
sang and clapped until their father came in and taught them how to catapult (弹射) the soap into the sink
with the washcloth.
I took the children for a nature walk to corral (把……赶入……) a slow ladybug(瓢虫)into my son's
insect cage. I was "cool" until their father came home, spent two minutes in the backyard, and captured a
beetle the size of a Chihuahua (吉娃娃,一种产于墨西哥的狗)..
I try to tell myself I am a good parent even if my husband does things I can't do. I can make sure my
children are safe. But I can't wire the VCR so my children can't watch their favourite video.
I can carry my children in my arms when they are tired and kiss them good night. But I can't flip them
upside down so they can walk on the ceiling or prop them on my shoulders so they can see the moths
flying inside the light fixture.
I can take them to doctor appointments, but I'll never go into the wilderness to fish. I'll even sit in the
first row of every Little League game, but I'll never teach my children how to hit a home run or slide into
first base.
I can do a lot of things for my children, but no matter how hard I try, I can never be their father.

1. What's the job of the mother in the passage?
A.  Looking after children,  going shopping and doinghousework.
B. Going shopping and sending her children to school.
C.  Playing with her children and going to school with them.
D. Working in the office and taking care of her children and husband.

2. The father will do the following EXCEPT   ________ according to the passage.
A. going wild to fish with the children
B. making appointments with doctors
C. flipping the children upside down
D. teaching the children how to hit a home run

3. What's the best title for the passage?
A. Mothers Have a Unique Job
B. Children Are Very Important
C. Fathers Have a Unique Job
D. Parents Have Gentle Children

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

Personally,I like Chinese New Year's moviesvery much.Because they are filled with joyousthemes.and this kind ofmovie is a good choice for people who finally finish a year'shard work and wish to add some refreshment to their new year.

And it proved to be true that Chinese New Year's movies are in need, for they were well received by common people inthe late 1990s.However,after less than 10.years of flourishing, they are now facing a great decline in box office income.

I think the failure of Chinese New Year's movies is for two main reasons:lack of creation and low quality of produetion.

Audiences are not fools. They watch movies in order to get satisfaction, bappiness and enlightenment(启发)not to be tricked by meaningless, same stories. If a movie tell aboring story, how can filmakers expect applause(鼓掌)fromthe audience.

And at the same time we hope that directors choose actors and actresses carefully. The success of a movie is mostlydetermined by a fine story and good performances. If performers aren't able to communicate a character's emotions exactlv,no matter how wonderful a story is,the movie may be afailure. So a popular New Year's movie ought to be creativeand elaborately(精心地)produced.

My favoufite Chinese New Year's movie is“Be There orBe Square”(Bu Jian Bu San),directed by Feng Xiaogang. It's a story about love and life. The hero is a Chinese man who struggles hard in the US.One day,he meets a girl from Beijing. The two share the same goal:making their fortunes in America. After a series of ups and downs, they fail to realizetheir dreams. But,they finally fall in love with each other and decide to go back to China to make a brand new start.

Feng is good at providing humorous and simple lines with deep and strongly felt meaning. As far as the andience is concerned,it was acceptable and interesting. And the leading ac-tor and actress showed superior performances. They coopera-ted so well and acted so naturally that it seemed they were truly a pair of lovers.

From the simple but moving story,I got a lot.Besides money and fame, there are many other beautiful things worth pursuing(追求)and loving.

Good stories and actors are what the audience desire.Whether Chinese New Year's movies will last in the New Year's film market depends mostly on the filmmakers'attitude towards movie production.I hope that in the coming new year.I can spend several hours in a cinema enjoying a good movie instead of just chatting with my friends to escape a boring movie.

The wide spread of the photographic industry has led to a greater demand for skilled technicians in darkrooms and photographic laboratories. However, qualified workers are hard to find, because not many people seem to be attracted by this kind of work. Some people like to take pictures during their holidays, but they seldom produce their pictures all by themselves—that is the work of a photographic technician.Although it may not be easy to spend a full working day in the darkroom, it can be very satisfying to produce carefully processed photographs.

Especially, if one can produce a very good photograph of high quality, his sense of achievement is gained.Besides achieving job satisfaction, the photo technician can move on into production if he or she desires. For instance, the technician may choose to learn related skills such as photo restoration or photo retouching.Of course, these will make photo production more like an art, and it is not easy to become skilled in these kinds of work.Although it is a good idea to seek classroom theory and technical knowledge, the individual interested in becoming a darkroom technician will learn the most by actually working in a photographic laboratory. The use of photography in research and development is increasing; therefore, the need for more technicians will undoubtedly increase.

Turning on the TV, a wonderful scene comes to your eyes-a group of men, tall, strong and handsome, and women, young, beautiful and attractive, too.Together they eat in the finest restaurants, traveling everywhere around the world by luxurious planes and pleasure ships. They are models.

Do you envy them? What sort of life are models leading? Is it a wonderful life for a young lady or a young man?

A few models are well-known actors or actresses who can make a lot of money only by showing themselves off in commercials. But the majority of them are just curious to see what it is like. They’d like to be models just because they are attracted by what they imagine-models earn a lot of money and lead a glorious life. This is true for those who are very successful. However, most models find it difficult to get work.Very few can earn enough to live on, and for all models their expenses are high.Their agents claim about 20% of the earnings, and no model will get very far without a clever agent.Besides, they have to buy good clothing. They also have to pay to travel to interviews and reach the places where the work is to be done.

Interviews for a model job are known as cattle-markets in the modeling world, and not without a good reason.A top model can choose his or her work, demand and receive high fees and has his or her expenses paid. But for most models, the situation is quite different. And an agent or employer inspects each model much as a farmer inspects cattle at a market.Intelligence, qualifications and personal characteristics count for little against good looks and tight figures. For all except the very few lucky ones, the life of a model is a continual search for work, trying to sell himself or herself in the face of fierce competition and, sometimes, not particularly moral standards on the part of some employers.

Immigration officials at airport look suspiciously at a girl whose passport shows her occupation as “Model”, and these are men and women of considerable experience of the world. It comes no surprise to find that some models prefer to put “Secretary” or “Businessman” as their jobs in their passports.

Modeling is a changeable world with great rewards for a tiny minority but not for the majority.

(1)

C.

B.

C.

models are sometimes looked down upon

D.

(3)

What may be the author’s attitude towards modeling?

[ ]

A.

It is a worthwhile life for a young lady or a young man.

B.

He is in favour of young people to try modeling.

C.

Before being crazy about a model job, young people should be aware of the difficulties.

D.

It is a field in which everyone has a great chance to succeed.
