47.A.coward B.fool C.loser D.hero SECTION C Directions: Complete the following passage by using ONE word that best fits the context. Scholars and researchers have tried to discover what personality characteristics go along with success in intercultural experiences. Their findings have often been unclear or incomplete. 48 three characteristics stand out in their reports: patience, a sense of humor, and the awareness of being unclear. Patience, of course, is the ability to keep calm even 49 things do not go as one wants them to, or hopes they will, 50 has even been sure they will. A person with a sense of humor is 51 likely to take things too seriously and more ready to see the humor in his own reactions than a humorless person. “The awareness of being unclear is 52 more difficult concept than patience or a sense of humor. Foreigners often find themselves in situations that are unclear to the newcomers. That is, 53 do not know what is happening in the situation. Perhaps they do not understand the local language well enough, or they do not know 54 some system or organization works, or they can’t be sure of different people’s roles in what is going 55 . PART THREE READING COMPREHENSION Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are 4 choices marked A,B,C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage. A Many everyday American expressions are based on colors. Red is a hot color. Americans may say they are red hot about something unfair. They are red hot when they are very angry about something. The small hot-tasting peppers founding many Mexican foods are called red hot for their color and their fierytaste. Fast loud music is popular with many people. They may say the music is red hot, especially the kind called Dixieland jazz. Pink is a lighter kind of red. People sometimes say they are in the pink when they are in good health. The expression was first used in America at the beginning of the twentieth century. It comes from the fact that many babies are born with nice pink skin that shows that they are in good health. The color black is often used in expressions. People describe a day on which everything goes wrong as a black day. A blacklistis illegal now. But at one time, some businesses refused to employ people who were on a blacklist for belonging to unpopular organizations. The color green is natural for trees and grass. But is an unnatural color for humans. A person who has a sick feeling in his stomach may say he feels a little green. A passenger on a boat who is feeling very sick from high waves may look very green. Sometimes a person may be upset because he does not have something as nice as a friend has. That person may say he is green with envy. Some people are green with envy because a friend has more dollars or greenbacks. Dollars are called greenbacks because green is the color of the black side of the paper money. 查看更多

Learning experiences happen to us throughout our lives. Not long ago, I had one that I would like to  21  .

I was going to Marblehead with my sailboat team. The team was racing down the highway at 85 mph   22   we realized we were  23  . Luckily, we saw a rest area ahead. I had a brand new $20 bill. I was so   24   because I had never had that kind of cash before. But spending it on   25   seemed like throwing it away. We all rushed into the pizza line.   26   I got a pizza and a drink, and walked to my table. About halfway through the meal, I  27   I had not actually handed any money to the cashier. I had just   28  out, and nobody had noticed. I felt terrible.

My conscience(良心)opened its mouth and swallowed me in one big bite. I couldn’t   29   over it. I just couldn’t go back to the cashier and   30   for my stolen pizza. I was so upset that I   31   to give myself the pleasure of an ice cream in   32   that someone would say, “Hey, Jeff, why don’t you use the change   33  the pizza instead of that nice, new $20 bill?” I was not so  34  of my cash now.

For the next two years, whenever I was 35 of the “pizza incident”, I would say to myself, “Don’t think about it...”

I have learned two things from this   36  . Maybe I was a fool for   37  in to my conscience, and being too stupid to appreciate a   38   pizza. But the real lesson is that even if you get away from what you have done, your conscience will   39  up with you.

This reflects the saying, “A coward (懦夫) dies a thousand deaths; a hero dies one.” I was a coward and have felt terrible about that incident at least a thousand times. If I had been a “  40   ” and gone back to pay for the pizza, I would have felt a little uncomfortable about it only once, or maybe twice.
